Finally, an actual "Voyage" covered on The Voyages channel! I was delighted when Cassie correctly profassed Max Capricorn. But of course she used up all her powers nailing a 1 in 12, and so had to fail the 1 in 2. Is everyone still good with the "beard" joke, given Time Crash was actually written by Steven Moffat, a Straight? Maybe it's cool regardless because RTD signed off on it.

Fun fact: The Doctor was actually mistaken when he identified the giant crab monster as a Macra, because Macra do not exist. Also, just for the record, this episode isn't the first one with an Asian character (even if you're just counting East Asians). I haven't been counting, but at the very least Naoko Mori played the doctor who (heh) gets bewildered by the biology of the alien/non-alien pig in Aliens of London.

Lovely episode. Hearing Shakespearian Daleks makes me really want Ian Doescher to do a "William Shakespeare's Doctor Who", like he's done with Star Wars and other properties. Come on, BBC, make it happen. The unfortunate kicker to the whole JK Rowling thing: the writer of this episode Gareth Roberts is also an open transphobe. His reputation has sunk so low that he was planned to have a story in a Doctor Who short story collection a few years back, but he was taken off it because other writers on the book threatened to withdraw their contributions. So we may think of "Good old JK!" as poorly aged, but if Roberts were writing the episode today not only would he leave it in, he'd probably crowbar in the Doctor crediting Rowling as a feminist icon for "fighting to protect women and girls from males invading their spaces" or some crap. (Of course if he wrote that today then Russell T Davies would edit it out, I'd hope.) It's a shame because Roberts is queer himself and he's written some good Who over the years, including the Shada novelisation, but good riddance.

37:42 Coward /or/ Killer is a reference to Parting of Ways. Its the moment where Eccleston could activate the Satelite 5 transmiter that would blow up all daleks and humans equally, and the Dalek Emperor is taunting Eccleston asking "are you a killer or a coward". Eccleston choses coward, but the card is meant to make you chose if you want to be a killer or a coward.
@gabrielm36593 ай бұрын
If there is a next time, have your guesser try to pick if the mtg card is worth more or less then a predetermined value. Simply also asking them if they think its a good card. Someone without knowledge of the format (or precons) and what determines a cards value (which is confusing to those not in the loop) will struggle to guess with the overolad of info you're giving them. (Legenday/commander/power/toughness/abilities/blaw blaw) Keep it simple. "This is the Tardis, it does X" "Do you think this is worth more or less then $2?" "Do you think it's good?" "This is the sonic screwdriver, it does y." Rinse and repeat above questions for various cards. This would increase the pace of conversation. It took 13 minutes to get finished with the first card from your intro to the bit.

Very interesting episode! I knew about Delia Derbyshire - that she was essentially the Bill Finger or Ray Cusick of the Doctor Who theme - but I didn't know any of the detail, so this was cool. I wouldn't get your hopes up for Derbyshire in AAISAT, but I hear that "Delia Derbyshire: The Myths and the Legendary Tapes" is a thing. Also yes, you did mispronounce Derbyshire and Warwickshire, but to be fair it's not like the correct pronunciations actually make sense.

Susan WAS brought back for The Five Doctors, but being 40 years ago the best equivalent I could come up with was…Power Rangers having Jason the original Red Ranger in Forever Red. She needs her Grid Connection equivalent return for sure. There might be a case to compare her to Amy Jo Johnson: Last seen as Kim in the Turbo movie, she has only been involved in expanded material since: cameoed in the 2017 movie and written a comics series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return

I never noticed this before, because it's been so long since I watched Fear Her (because bad episode), but hearing that isolated clip, Chloe's demon dad sounds incredibly similar to Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug in the Hobbit movies. Maybe that's just the voice actors go for when asked to play a deep voiced monster? Also, I know there's a strong possibility you remembered this since the record, but I'm compelled to correct the record anyway - The Dalek Invasion of Earth is set in the 22nd century and to my knowledge has never been suggested to take place on a parallel world, even retroactively (and especially not Pete's World in specific). I was quite baffled about where you were getting all that from!
@TheVoyages4 ай бұрын
I definitely misremembered the year it took place, but I meant that was a parallel world in the same that Pete’s World is a parallel world, not that they were the same one. However, since I misremembered that year, it’s a moot point anyway, it won’t become definitively a parallel world for another 130 years or so.

Really happy to hear that Cassie liked this one! Made for an interesting discussion. I always thought Love & Monsters was over-hated. Even when I first watched it in 2006, it averaged out to decent for me. Seeing The Doctor and Rose's effect on modern day London from a regular guy's perspective was engaging, and quite a lot of its jokes were hits. I think what's so divisive about the episode - besides the messiness of the ending - is that it's a goofy parody of its own show on purpose, and a lot of fans don't vibe with that. Like when you see the Scooby Doo sequence or when Elton says "the internet blew up" and it shows his keyboard literally exploding, you know this isn't something to take too seriously, and you probably also know whether you're on board with it. Fun fact: the Abzorbaloff was played by Peter Kay, who was one of the UK's biggest stand up comedians at the time and probably still is. Imagine if Star Trek The Next Generation had a comedy Picard-lite episode where Adam Sandler guest starred. Also, his natural accent is far closer to his Abzorbaloff voice than the one he uses in his human disguise. He's from North West England. By the way, you say we never learn the Abzorbaloff's real name (or the name of his species), but how do we know his Clom-ian name isn't literally Victor Kennedy? I choose to believe it is.

Can confirm Nicholas Briggs is a good dude. When I was at Gallifrey One several years ago, I was browsing a merch table that was all Big Finish CDs. Someone on the other side of the table says “Are you going to buy something?” And I look up annoyed thinking it was the vendor being pushy, but instead there’s Nicholas Briggs. “Because if you do, I’ll sign it.” Just pure charm and class. I’ve mostly given up on having any desire to be famous, but should fame find me, that’s how I want to be.

As egregious as it is for all of the clones to be given all the diseases at once, and for intravenous cures to be applied via touch, neither of those are even the biggest headscratcher for me. What really makes this episode make no sense is, if The Doctor was able to fully cure all of the test subjects using the solutions they already had, then what exactly were they still being tested for??? So instead of this being an actual moral dilemma (is it worth stopping the inhumane treatment of test subjects if it means losing the potential cures to other serious diseases?), it turns out the cat nuns were just dumbasses and didn't realise they'd already cured all disease and didn't need to keep doing it. Although the Doctor said that certain diseases weren't due to be cured for a thousand years, and there was no time travel shenanigans involved in that, so does that mean the Doctor's actions destroyed the cures? But that doesn't make any sense either.

Loved these first few episodes! Listening to this has really brought back how instantly I was hooked by this show back in 2005. I'm pretty sure the Steward's cries of "SUN FILTER UP! SUN FILTER UP!!!" are permanently etched in my brain. Really looking forward to hearing more of Cassie's predictions and reactions for the upcoming episodes. I wonder if you could even afford to be more enigmatic than you already are, e.g. by not revealing when the next episode is a multi-parter. Also, just because I physically cannot restrain myself from being *that guy*, I have to tell you that classic Who was not shot on film, except for outdoor scenes (and Spearhead from Space). It was shot on videotape, and then transferred to film for storage/overseas sale. But of course you're right that episodes were shot mostly as-live in the 60s, and they couldn't do many retakes because edits were time consuming and expensive.
@TheVoyages8 ай бұрын
I kind of have to reveal when things are a multi-parter just because we have to schedule enough recording time to get two (or more) episodes in. If we were doing each episode separately instead of each story, I probably would’ve kept it secret when things were multi-part stories.

Great video! Last Jedi is one of my favorite films. I do disagree about your assessment of Finn’s arc. He didn’t leave the first order. because he was afraid to die. He left because he was not going to murder innocent people. I think that’s an important step in his journey. he’s already capable of making moral choices. He just hasn’t joined a cause.

Focused more on the wars and less on the Star. Yeah that’s my take too. I love that. It’s why I love Andor as well. Here’s the thing, I went to see Star Wars opening weekend in 1977. I was blown away by the Star part. I went home and converted my mothers kitchen mop stick into a toy light saber. I was ten. Why did I do this? There were no Star Wars toys yet. At my age I was as so ready for THIS Star Wars movie. I will always love the child wonder of Star Wars, but it’s time for this franchise to grow.

This movie was difficult for people who liked Luke Skywalker. His rejection of the force is compelling, but doesn’t make sense given eps 4-6. He learned these lessons already, didn’t need to have hope given to him by a new character.
