Phantom Tollbooth is a good movie as is the secret garden lits watch the worlds collide, in you attacking me with spoon and I finally back with pitchfork, even if you are dead Ben, it's never too late to share the pains you giveth ... oh cryptic Arabian Knights can you try to translate that to an English weird garden for meh? Oh don't be shy I speak far weirder slangs of hooked on phonics to waters no one dare see to say. Lit 🕯️me guess your a man of the airs that is so upset when I can see you hear you and your will that wants me to allow you to be my god on which you are not. And when I speak for myself it becomes you teaching me a lesson about what a god you are !! And you even do the dance of pretending to understand just to shut down those that are in need of understanding as you far wiser upon them. Why are people so defensive what in their lil hell holes with your possessions a coming to them as a light and lamp unto .... They are indeed so ignorant and needing you to teach them the great you. I love how you sing about a mother of creation with the cat of an alley, just because you a dog of dogma that knows the mother loves cats...you are born in September but hardly knowing of embers ...way down to the mother of creation as it longs to be free of you in her chains marked mocked as you so fear that love for you going away and why does it go away? As it tries so much to live life and be to you saying no don't go let me tell you how much I need to make money and look good for nothing and you to revolve me whom makes your life a living hell of impossible . She was indeed like a Dorothy so ni'eve to the prince'pal'ties making her witch for himself divine . You sing of grave for the nerds as you become the cool kid upon them in halo of caring about them, so many graves for you in your death!
I used to live at the Arts Lab generally getting in the way (um... I mean helping out). Jim was always gentle. I also worked at International Times. I remember being interviewed by John Lennon for the post of Classified Ads manager for a magazine that he was thinking of bringing out when Jim walked in behind me. A lot happened in those days. I visited Jim and Jack in Paris a few times., not just for dinner. Always very welcoming.

strangely enough, as i play bass and don't fancy playing guitar, this song and Pink Floyd's Echoes are my 2 fav songs on guitar. I couldn't go a year w/o listening to either one. It is odd how big of a PF vibe secret machines give off. they're both a group of aliens, sid included of course.

Ben left the group not even a month after this. As much I like his work with Sviib, he was the special sauce in this band, and they were in the midst of thier best work when he left, its truly a shame and may he RIP

My daughter stayed in his basement for three years from 2008 and helped out with the Sunday dinners in lieu of board. She organised the crowd for the After Eight commercial. She's the one with the bow in her hair. I stayed there a couple of times but alas never got to go to the dinners. RIP Jim.

Thank you so much for making this film! I'm the woman in the hot pink hat with the Yorkie (my wee late Yorkie, Lucy). Jim was an amazing, wonderful, goodhearted, fun man, and a little madcap (and my friend), and his spirit really comes out here.

This brings a soft tear to my eye. I had the pleasure of attending one of Jim's dinners in the summer of 2018. He was obviously a lot older than he was in this documentary but he was still present, so welcoming and up for a chat. I met some of the most interesting people and had engaging conversations. My friend and I were then kindly taken by a young Parisian lady to explore the city. We sat underneath a large weeping willow tree along the Seine and admired the city of Paris. That was my first night in Paris and one that I hold so dear to my heart.

I really enjoyed this. I've had dinner at Jim's maybe 4 times over the years. The first time was with my elderly mother who had her first dinner at Jim's with my dad maybe 40 years ago. She wanted to introduce me to the man, the experience, the joy of Paris with people and energy that she really loved. So it was a dinner at Jim's. I always feel I don't want to leave, because the friendliness is real, its home. Thank you Jim, I'd love to come to dinner again... when this damn virus is history! Until then... be well.

Beautiful to see this. I have been to Jim's dinner at least half a dozen times since my first visit in the eighties. Always a pleasure. Nice to see my friend Maria D'Arcy as one of the participants. Looks like this was shot before he remodeled the place. It looks a lot different now. He did a beautiful job on the renovation.

Each time I hear this song it makes me feel those tiredness and extasy from some of my very late nights, even some sleepless nights. It's something I didn't remember feeling in any other song. The other thing is that even tough it's not a blues song, there's some blues emotions irradiating from it. It gets me the "saturday-night blues", if you understand what I mean. At the same time, I feel relaxed and having fun, like when I spend some nice time with a bunch of friend in a nice place, drinking, talking, dancing or singing sometimes,..

For those curious about the film "MARFA MYSTERY LIGHTS, a concert for the UFO's", I did purchase a copy. The film is interesting from the view of art and art as a commodity, but there are only two songs performed, "Daddy's in the Doldrums" and "Marfa Song". No others. Which is terribly disappointing. I did not expect a whole album, but maybe 5 songs would have been nice considering all the work put into making a film. The results could have been glorious, the sound quality is even better off the DVD. What could have been... It is my understanding that Ben left TSM in March of 2007, that would have been shortly after the film being shot in Feb 2007. A complete concert would have been great document of a great band, that sadly is no more with Ben's early death. Life is so short. Make the most of it while you can.

Otherworldly...Incredible band , sadly Benjamin Curtis died in 2013 aged 35 . His soul is probably flying around the universe looking for the answers... There will never be another band like Secret Machines ... Unique , daring and so majestic ... The 2nd version of the band stopped touring and recording around 2010 ... Some good news is that Brandon Curtis and Josh Garza have been spotted in the studio , with the promise of things to come for 2018...We hope .
