Thanks, Matt! Thanks from all of us who don't have to fuss with capturing the essence of the ascent and descent of this route.

They are not attached to you/your wrist? Wouldn't it be really inconvenient if you were to let go of one of them for any reason?
@linepoacher12097 күн бұрын
Yea it would be, but it’s also inconvenient for the attachment to pull it out if you slip and pull the tool directly at you, it’s quite sharp and would be unpleasant to have in and/or around you face. 😅
@MattyBowman7 күн бұрын
We not longer use wrist loops. Fiddling with wrist loops to place and remove screws and gear was such a hassle (which often resulting in fumbling and losing an ice tool.) With these modern tools wrist loops aren’t necessary. We just make sure tools are secure if they’re left in the ice.

Yeah. We found the steeper lines had really nice plastic ice.

Fun! A little thin! But that can be a nice challenge. Must have been tough to protect on lead.

The protect wasn’t very good but climbing felt very secure - which is most important 🤷🏻♂️

Rock and Snow used to sell special Rabbit Runners that were custom made by Yates just for them. They had a piece of weed whacker material inserted and sewn into the center hollow on just one end of the tubular webbing. Made a Mr. Stiffy style sling that was super helpful when threading features and could easily be pushed into and through places that you couldn’t get to with your hands.
@MattyBowmanАй бұрын
Sounds like a great idea!

Do you prefer standard 7mm nylon or tech cord for your cordellete material while ice climbing? Any difference in choice between guiding and personal climbs?
@MattyBowmanАй бұрын
Personally prefer 7mm nylon for cordolette as it’s easy to handle and inexpensive, and I’ll often use it to replace fixed anchors throughout the season. I like using tech cord type material for prussik loops.

Great video and awesome time line on what and why you did things the way you did. I can attest to the neatness of your rope stack and never having to be concerned with “rope management issues” when swinging leads!

Hey Matt, heading up to the Whites for a couple day New Years trip. Just some good old mountain climbing, no ice climbing. But, how are the conditions? I know they are certain icy after the rain, but how icy? Lions head should be straight forward? Just wondering how icy the step will be. We are experienced climbers, do you think I’ll need my rope and gear to get up the step? I picture it being pure ice at this point, and we don’t mind some good free climbing but to a point. Thanks for your time.
@MattyBowmanАй бұрын
Hey! I’m hopeful we’ve finally settled into New England winter weather. Historically - we’re about one month behind. That said, conditions change very quickly. I’d suggest packing your duffle bag with the usual White Mountain mountaineering kit. When you arrive, load your pack according to the conditions and forecast. 🤷🏻♂️

Rating? I think the camera really skews the angle at times.
@svenmccalljr.4268Ай бұрын
It does - it is normally rated as a WI2+ but I think in these conditions it is climbing a bit harder/more mixed
