It took me a while to understand where Artie was coming from on this. But, I think the key is what he said towards the end. Howard wasn't expecting the huge success of the re-release of the Star Wars (special edition) movies were gonna kill Private Parts' box office momentum. He even said so on Letterman a week later after the movie opened, basically begging people to go see his movie. At least it opened at #1 with almost 15 million dollars (29 million in today's numbers) And even though it dropped out of the top ten list in less than a month. It still grossed $42 million dollars...
