Just reviewed Requiem but I liked this initially but this movie nowadays, this movie is pretty dark to where you can't see anything, not much characters to like, the writing is bad and the story is lame. A few positives, yes, but this is the second worst in the alien franchise

Movies were done different back then, the reason there's three stories is to get you invested into the characters, so you feel the pain from their demise. its meant to get you to empathize with all main n supporting characters. you are meant to witness Maxs decent to madness, it isn't explained but at the time of the movie the world is at war n on the brink of collapse. there are still townships that are considered safe. an then you have the lawless zone. after the events of this movie the world collapses. Max Rockatansky legend of the wastes.

The stunt guys in Mad Max are also the bikers in the biker gang for the most part and were apparently largely paid in beer. The plot is, it's a revenge movie. Slightly typical of the time (a bit late to the game but more or less inline) there tended to be longer setups. (Taxi Driver, Jaws, Friday the 13th...it runs the genres) Some deviated a bit more here and there but look at any number of films from around then and you'll see pretty similar pacing. Bigger budget and they'd probably have sprinkled more chases or crimes or something in there, or made the existing ones a little stronger. Personally while I get why, I'd have tried to find another way around the whole vacation sequence but it's there and serves some purpose and brings Max back home creating a false lullaby that they are out of danger. (We probably also didn't need the gang beach scene as it slows things down a bit and I'm not sure we need the biker's social motivation and stuff) ...That's also weirdly the only background we get on Max. It makes watching the Road Warrior first weird as there isn't much there to set up why to care about Max. All his personality and humanity is in the first film, anything else is just a small ghostly glimpse. I actually like that Mad Max movies don't setup or telegraph the world's "rules." There is a lot hinted at but it never stops to tell you and I'm quite happy with that. Mad Max does suffer from its opening though. That opening is just so strong and so good that there is nowhere for the movie to go. Whatever happens you just want to rewind.

This film is a cult classic. The first dystopian movie of its kind. It was so iconic for car and motorbike enthusiasts. V8 engines and Kawasaki Z1000 heaven. All the stunts are real in this movie. CGI has ruined the movie industry and took away thousands of jobs like prop/scene building and work for extras and stunt men and women. If you wanted a thousand people in a scene then you'd have to find a thousand people. Fury Road is for a completely new generation of movie fan so I think you'll enjoy that a lot more. Good luck with your channel Big T.
@AveragePicker5 ай бұрын
There were a number of dystopian australian films before mad max. ...The car that ate paris even features a spiked up car similar to what we see in fury road. Arguably even Stone is...featuring biker gangs. I really don't think CGI has ruined movies. There is plenty of bad CGI but there was always plenty of bad practicals. And CGI has enabled smaller films to pull off bigger looks. ...The Moon comes to mind (2009) comes to mind. They were also able to take advantage of the writer's strike and get a fair amount done on the cheap. Bringing in hundreds of extras is incredibly difficult to manage and even if you follow the tradition of not paying extras, it just isn't feasible for smaller budget pictures. It's also made stunt work far safer. The stories are fun but failed stunts ruined a large number of lives. (Never mind even Hong Kong films and Ozploitation which safety was nearly nonexistent for much of the early days) Fury Road features a heck of a lot of CGI. Even a film like Oh Brother Where Art Thou has a lot of digital and CGI work done to it, it just hides it well.

Thanks for the review and I'll have to watch them again now that I don't have to look through my fingers at the scary parts. It may be hard to believe but in those days before the internet or online video, yes there were scary parts in POTA movies for kids. It's encouraging for us older folks that you examined the philosophical elements and not just the action. Well done.

Everything else about your assessment of the film is spot on except....... Your assessment of Leatherface is almost completely wrong lmao Yes, he is DEFINITELY the family guard dog but it's only because he's the biggest physically. But he DEFINITELY takes Pleasure in killing, torturing and kidnapping. He taunts Sally in the chair, he laughs maniacally when he throws Pam on the hook, he chops Kirk up gleefully. He is SEVERELY mentally disabled but he is still psychotic and evil.

So CGI stands for Computer Generated Imagery. When we say there's no CGI in this movie we mean computers weren't used for the special effects. They were produced photographically which means they had to project images made of light onto strips of plastic which had light-sensitive chemicals on them (called film) in an extremely difficult, multilayered process that was incredibly expensive to do. And if you didn't do it right, you couldn't really go back and tweak it, that was it. And while there were many effects in this movie that didn't look great, even in 1984, there are others that I'm quite sure you had no idea were an FX shot. You should look here for a fun little bit of information about how special effects have changed over the last 40 years. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpK0dKGNmat1kMk

Sorry about Crush, man. I lost my favorite dog Maxine 40 years ago & still miss her. I read books 1-3 in the late 70s, early 80s when I was in high school & they totally blew me away. Amazing literature. I saw the Lynch version on the big screen soon after it premiered. I enjoyed it & still don't understand the hate it's received over the years. It is what it is, as they say. I've seen part 1 of the new version & find it to be a bit dreary. Lady Jessica couldn't be more boring, drab & miscast. I don't hate it, but I think the 80s one has more charm. Do yourself a favor & at least get around to reading the first book at some point. Hang in there, brother 🤖👍
