AMC TC also a Build game. It was a Duke Nukem mod, at first, but got rebuild to be it's own thing.

Two things about this video I need to point out. First, as a couple of others have pointed out, Ken's Labyrinth doesn't use BUILD, it was a clone of the Wolfenstein 3D engine that Ken Silverman built from scratch in high school. He would go on to use what he learned from creating that engine, as well as seeing what Id was doing with Doom and even consult John Carmack a bit, to create BUILD; he even used a few rooms from KL E1M1 in "Ken-BUILD", a test game made to demonstrate its capabilities. But again, Ken's Labyrinth itself didn't use BUILD. Second, the time line of games is incomplete. Here's what you're missing as far as I can find: Rock'n Shoalin: Legend of the Seven Paladin 3D (1994), Witchaven (1995), Witchaven II: Blood Vengeance (1996), Redneck Deer Huntin' (1998), Extreme Paintbrawl (1998), Electric Highways (2015), and Skilander (2024). Those last two can be forgiven since they're free, niche, indie titles built on BUILD, but the others are at least somewhat infamous commercial titles for varying reasons.

Ken's Labyrinth does *NOT* use the Build Engine any more than Wolfenstein 3D uses the Doom engine.
@jojotoofor9eight766
@jojotoofor9eight766 Күн бұрын
I mean... it DOES use Build, just not to fullest potential. Wolf3D did not use Doom engine, nor was it similar because Wolf3D engine could not have lighting, diagonal walls or varying ceiling/floor heights.
@thewhyzer
@thewhyzer Күн бұрын
@jojotoofor9eight766 It doesn't use Build at all. Ken's Labyrinth had the same map limitations that Wolfenstein 3D did, and Ken only started writing the Build engine after Ken's Labyrinth was finished.

@regicorp6514 Wikipedia says says Ken Silverman created the Build Engine after he released Ken's Labyrinth. You need to provide a source if you want to be believed that KL used ANY form of the Build Engine.

Crazy that I people still use this engine. It's not particularly good. But it does old school fps games very well. Though you may be better off just using Unity or something.
@lordterra1377
@lordterra1377 Күн бұрын
Unity has higher requirements, worse licensing, and isn't free. Build Engine games give you that authentic retro gameplay and look. Not a good engine? How many have you made? How many copies did Duke3d sell back in the day? I'll wait.... It's not the tools or engine that makes the game, but the talent you have to make a game is what matters most.

Imho Unity isn't good for retro fps either. GZDoom and Quake engines are probably the best for this.

Hey, since you've done this video, I was wondering if you could help me with the title of a game. I think it might be an obscure game though. So it's a thirdperson shooter for Ps1. I remember that there were two game modes:A long Mission akin to a story, and a set of ten short missions. I mostly played the short missions. I remember that these had a split screen. On the left there was the character, and on the right was the target. You could kill from 5 to 20. There were a bunch of different weapons like flamethrowers, shotguns, a rocket launchers. And these weapons were represented by colored blinking symbols on the map. You could restock when you ran out of amo. You could eqiop 3 weapons at once. I also remember that on two of the levels there were red laser Barriers. You had to wait for them to disappear before traversing or you would fir and lose your weapons. So yeah I can't remember the name of this game for the life of me. I was hoping you could help me. Thanks in advance.

More I gotten used to Codename Tenka, more I realized it's kind of good as long played by its own rules. It's not great, but it definitely does have its own eerie atmospheric feel thanks to neat soundtrack and sense of being lonely in the rooms, etc. It's definitely more of a niche game title tho.
