Out of interest, how many acres do you farm - and how many cattle? Thanks for the videos - I'm finding them very interesting. I think you are in N Devon?

Thanks for the video Jack and it was great to hear from Jon about the grazing system. I totally agree with allowing the cows out to grass when its available as I think it helps with foot health as well as overall health and milk yield.

Won't the Astronaut sort the "bully" cows and direct them to the pasture after milking...thus allowing the more quiet/timid "ladies" their opportunity to be milked?...Enjoyed the paddock tour John! THANK YOU!
@kevinmanley24985 ай бұрын
Can you actually graze kale while milking via robots? I have been on the understanding that kale/ brassicas can taint milk in cows if cows are milked immediately afterward grazing kale as sort of need a break between feeding and milking which can’t be done via robots. I look forward to seeing how this works 🤔 Glad the grazing is working well. I also graze with robots and it suits our cows and system.

Just finished the kale,worked well they were always walking back over grazing grass on the way in to be milked.no milk taint

Our wholecrop was dreadful this year, but we do undersow it with grass so that competes with it a bit. Don't you think rowing it up knocks a lot of the grains off?

Maybe you can put all the bales up, into a big new pyramid! As a modern art farmer's landscape installation! As something fresh for the visitors of the Abbey, the hikers on the coastal path and supported by the AONB. Wonder what they will say! 😄😆😜

Also eliminates a serious proportion of bullying as absolutely no point in cows barging into a feed area to defend one spot where a better bale is when all feed is exactly the same and therefore heifers will also look after themselves considerably better and produce to potential and get in calf more timely as life’s less stressful for them.
@frasermathers22876 ай бұрын
Thanks Jack & Jon for the video and a look at the demo feed wagon which seems a solid unit. I think the potential for herd improvements speak for themselves in that you can feed a balanced and consistent TMR, reduce feeding times and reduce wastage, but it has to be weighed against the investment required to purchase. The overall improvement for milk yield/volumes and herd health speak for themselves and there is plenty of statistics out there to support it..

The GoPro wasn't having any of it. 😝 For the camera: personally I'd say normal and not wide - if you film the context in the same shot, the actual action shot is more steady imho. So you're a magician now as well, aren't you? What else have you moved or made dissappear with a fingertwitch? 👀😁🪄

Thanks for the Video Jack. In my younger years from about 9/10 y/o, one of my favourite jobs was tedding which I loved, as I was always kept off school which was great too 😂. It was amazing that all my sick days seemed to coincide with busy days on the farm lol. I really like that Shelbourne Spreader as you can clearly see as you spread what the spread pattern is. Thanks
