Female lovebirds can still laid eggs without a male companion. I had two females sold to me a year ago . The store owner told me they were a male and female pair . I was so excited at first . I thought I was going to be a grandpa . After she laid her first two eggs weeks went by and months and the eggs turned rotten .is weird cause they were always humping on each other. I guess they were Lesbos . I took them to the vet and they did a DNA test . After $55 spent find out they were both females 🤦🏻😫

I think the pet shop owners should already know or do the DNA test before making a sale . They should know the gender instead of charging $50 for a freaking test . Ridiculous.

We had just discovered it and i don't know what to do. they threw some hay to the bottom of the cage and have decided to ignore it for a bit. It has feathers but winter is next month important parts father died new male appeared now baby on floor and is given hay

My macaw has escaped 2-3 weeks ago and we’ve done all that we can to try to find her she’s only a baby I go out later in the afternoon and I can hear her but I can’t locate her it just makes me so sad

I have three lovebird (orginally 4 but one died). The first pair was sold as pair so they was kept in cage together for a long time until the second pair came. After the fourth lovebird die the third one move on and try to get with the other lovebird. This lead to the two bird fighting over one bird. I thought it was two male fight over a female so I put the new bird to a seperate cage. However, I was later discovered that the so called "pair" the shop owner told me was actually two male because they both try to mate with each other. Sometimes I even saw them fighting with the other to get the top potition (they try to step on each other back but the other refuse and they begin to bite each other) and I got so panicked. I can't actually seperate the two male because every time I try to put them with the third one they will ignore it or bite the poor bird until I put them back together. I don't know what to do.

If the beak line pass under the eyes the canary is a female & if it goes between the eyes is a male. when the babies are in the nest if you put your hand on top of the nest ( from outside the cage ) the male will dive in & their head will be down & their legs up & the female doesn't show any reaction.

I found that laying down and looking relaxed and holding my phone with KZbin videos of canarys singing while showing the screen in his direction will make him fly over and land on my legs.. I sit very still to make him get used to being so close to me. I think he realises the difference between me getting close to the cage and close outside.. they are very clever.. he is still scared of my hands for the moment tho.. still working on it.
