Wondering how important sanitization of the lamb feeding tube is and what you use to sanitize or wash it?
@EwetopiaFarms11 сағат бұрын
@JB.506 we clean them after every tubing of each ewes lambs. So if she has one, it is washed if she has triplets, it is washed after all her lambs are tubed. So the next ewe's lambs will always have a clean tube

I really enjoy lambing season as a farmer. To try ease pressure on first time ewes we use a makeshift jug within the feed area where all other ewes can be clearly seen by the new mother. That way they are more comfortable. then after we have 2 or 3 other ewes lamb we mo ve them to the separate lambing area.

What a beautiful little girl! Mom was very attentive once she realized that was her baby. 🥰 Arnie, you are so patient with the ewes. I wish other farmers had the same method. It’s disturbing to see when they force the birth immediately if something is showing, and then rushing the ewe into a jug. Seems so unnatural. I love that you guys give the mom time to adjust and bond. 💛 I’m keeping fingers Xd for the prolapse ewe. And I agree, Lynn, not every prolapse animal needs to be hauled off to market. Many go on to have normal births, but they do need to be caught early the first, like you guys did. Love the music at the end!🥰

She's a big girl, the new lamb, and beautiful. Hopefully the Dorset with the prolapse will turn out well. There might be some problems with so many mothers, but the ropes should keep it in order. Today there was an icy wind and -3 C, in Kingston it shows me -12 C, you have a bigger winter there. I hope everything goes well Krasava🙂

@krasavaserkopova8819 Yes, it's very cold here today, but it's warm in the barn. The prolapse ewe didn't actually prolapse. We got her in time luckily, but she is high risk, so the harness prevents that from happening 🙂🥰🥰🥰

I'm not sure where the magical subscriber count needs to be at but as a precaution you may want to start learning how to add the sepia filter to change the colour or just edit it out the birthing blood. I know Cammy was getting flagged around the 275k to 300k subscriber count and with all the work that goes into editing a video you dont want YT claiming it as gory content.

@kala6576 yes, but I think ours are quite clean and not bloody. We also don't line up dead lambs for viewing which is really disturbing. We do mention deaths and problem births but despite this really getting views, it is not how we want to grow. So, we are trying to be real yet sensitive to our viewers and the animals involved.

@EwetopiaFarms14 сағат бұрын
@MstresVampy Not always but they can, that's for sure. We've had many that were fine the next year. But this was not an actual prolapse just a bulge and we got it before it became a full blown prolapse which would have less successful future outcomes. However, this has a high probability of working out. We have been doing this almost 25 years now and successful outcomes often are more likely if you attempt it than give up out of hand 😁 Our philosophy is to give our animals a second chance when possible. We did cull a prolapse ewe last year but hers was a bad one. Not all prolapses are the same nor have the same root cause.

Very inspirational, we are a young couple looking to go into sheep farming and this video was extremely helpful. I loved what you said at the end, we too have realized that just because our parents have "everything" doesn't mean we will, nor that its something that we want. So we have defined our "enough" and believe a slow sheep farming life will be key. We are focusing on developing practical skills that we can use on the farm. Time is on our side due to our young age and our hope is to prepare for the next 10 - 20 years to get to the sheep farm life. I am going to develope skills butchering animals, then go work on a sheep farm and so forth. My spouse is learning sales, contract law and so forth.

@@EwetopiaFarms Oh, I know, I said it to myself while I was typing the list. But if you DO keep this big girl, I just think she should be Naomi. Though I am worried about momma's instability. Afraid she'll wake up squashed. But hopefully not. Pretty sure that giving birth to a ginormous ewe lamb when you didn't even know you were pregnant might be a bit traumatizing. She'll be a super-mom though. I noticed that when her milk was checked, instinct number one was to tilt hips forward for easier access. Super Mom! Today I went out to my sheep/goat herd and I decided to break the ice on the water trough. It was fresh yesterday, but today I removed six-inch-thick slabs of ice. Then my 11-day old baby goat decided she'd jump up on her favorite platform, except it was no longer solid, it was liquid. I had to fish her out. I had triplet goats born on Thursday.... which was absolutely insane, considering that their mom gave birth to twins on July 4th of last year. The day I was separating the ram lambs, I also planned to put my billy goat with them, but he slipped away, bred this mama, then meekly allowed himself to be banished from the goat herd. I hoped he wouldn't be successful, but he was! :)
