@@davefleming1117 No war here. My favorite was Herschel Walker and I get told. Barry WAS a God. That 97 game against Tampa Bay with 2 80+ yard TDs, and 215 yards on 25 carries if I remember correctly, is what comes to mind when I think of him. If you love Barry you know your backs.

Barry holds the record for negative yards. If it was 3rd and 2 he would make it 4th and 4. He made his O line look bad because he tried to avoid contact so much. Great guy and fun to watch though.

Opposing teams used to have Barry checked for materials like vaseline on his pants because their hands kept sliding off of him. And this… “"He rushed for (158) yards and then they pulled Barry out of the game and you look up at the scoreboard and Christian Okoye just finished their game in Kansas City and is (10) yards ahead of Barry for the rushing title in the NFL. And Wayne Fontes and some people came, ‘Barry, you want to go in and get your (11) yards, get your title?’ He just said, ‘No, let the other guy play.’ I mean, think about that. There’s got to be a pretty nice bonus attached to winning the rushing title, and he says, 'No, let the other guy go ahead and play. "I went up to him myself. Wayne went up to him. When I sat next to him I said, 'Hey Barry, you sure you don’t want the rushing title? He goes, ‘Nah, that’s OK.’ I’m like 'OK, that’s Barry.' He wasn’t one to love the limelight. He was not that kind of a guy. He’d rather see someone else shine. That’s truly the humility and the humbleness of Barry Sanders. And I get tickled just talking about him because I just love the guy." - Bob Gagliano, Lions quarterback (1989-90)
@Cujobob10 ай бұрын
Nah, Barry Sanders played behind a garbage line and regularly turned TFL into huge plays. “You know, I, I played the game to be the best to ever do it. And, you know, a lot of people say that I am, you know, for me it all depends on style as well too. So, you know, like Barry, Barry, Sanders, you know, for me, if you ask me, I'm like, Barry Sanders, he's that guy. You know, you think about his style and what he was able to do and the situation that he was in too, and what he was able to produce on the field. Huh. You know, it Is, it, it's, it's kind of hard man. It's kind of hard not to say Barry Sanders, you know, but obviously there was a lot of great running backs out there. He was talking about sweetness, you know, Mr. Walter, Peyton Jim, Brown, you know” -AP

@@WePostWeekly Great question, probably Walter Payton, he could do it all, run inside, outside, pass black, catch he finished with 492 receptions, think of that, is his era an elite WR would be lucky to have 500 in a career. He even threw for 8 TD's. In the modern era I would go with Ladanian tomlinson, He ran for over over 13,000 yards and honestly didn't play on the best teams, he set the ALL TIME NFL record for TD's in a season at 28 and has 624 catches to his name. he also threw for 7 TD's. Obviously with the all time greats you can be splitting hairs but objectively Both names I mentioned are better receivers and better pass blockers. Barry is the man and it would have been interesting to see his swap teams with Emmit Smith and see what he could have done behind the big O-Line in Dallas. BTW only 2 active players are currently in the top 77 All time Rushing list.
@Cujobob10 ай бұрын
Barry didn’t get the chance to show some traits enough because the Lions’ OL was so bad. Emmitt was the other premier back at the time and the difference was he was behind the Cowboys’ dominant OL, so he could run inside anytime. The league also didn’t use players like him as receivers as much at the time.
