Hi Allan! What an interesting update! Layout wiring can be frustrating at the best of times, but having to update servo controller firmware adds an extra element of pain - especially when you get problems after the update! Glad you got everything sorted and it was just a cabling issue! Great idea to label wires as they're installed - what are you using to make your labels? Such a pity about Mallard! It's annoying that we have to pay so much for our models, especially when it turns out that the factory quality control is so poor! As you know, I've got an A4 on pre-order, and have seriously considered cancelling it on a number of occasions, but will wait and see how my luck is, as not all of them are terrible runners! All the best, Ian.

Hi Ian, I am using a Dymo label writer which I picked up from W H Smith's. I am still on the original cartridge, but for how long who knows. Updates are a pain but fortunately as I created all the boards myself, I wasn't relying on someone else to have got it right, it was all down to me. Luckily it was just a cable. I really hope you have better luck with your A4 as they are a great piece of engineering. All the best Allan

Well done on sorting the wiring problem. It is so disheartening when you turn on and things start happening that shouldn't. It is a great pity about Mallard. Dapol locos can be noisy if they don't have the most recent motors in them but they should run smoothly. Dapol's great weakness is indifferent quality control. Good to see the trains running around. Hi Stephen, thank you for the support, it was more than a little frustrating when everything started flashing and resetting, but luckily its all sorted now. The trains are running smoothly for the most part, except a short section of track leading to the upper level, which will need extra droppers. Looking forward to breaking down the layout sections so it can be disassembled in the future. All the best Allan

Hi Allan! Great job adding those small plinths to the viaduct to bring it up to the right height! The Cricut machine is a godsend when it comes to tricky cuts isn't it? Don't envy you having to move the layout, but a new house must be an exciting prospect! All the best, Ian.

Well, apart from the exciting news of a new move and new house, I don't envy you the task fo splitting the layout up for the move. I know when I re did my initial layout I pulled out so much wire and ruined a lot of rails I ended up starting completely from scratch and using old rail as little as possible but of all the people who can do I am sure you can. The bridge looks fantastic - and even though as you said there is little to see when in place the knowledge that you did everything to spec is enough. Well done Allan. And yes - the hobby is a great one for unwinding! Regards Steve

The Cricut machines do seem a godsend for modellers. The viaduct looks very good. Your plans for the layout make sense given that you will be moving and good luck with creating a modular layout I can't remember whether you are using Code 80 or Code 55 track but I have some of the Protrack Rail Aligners spare. If you look at my video 152 at about 20'23" you will see me showing the Code 55 version. I also have a pack of Code 80 which I bought a long time ago before ProTrack made the Code 55 version. If you think they would be helpful to you drop me an email to let me know which (or both if you can use both) and I will post them to you. Stephen

Hi Stephen, thank you so much for the kind offer. I will let you know which ones I am using, that would be of great help as I have struggled to get hold of any since GETS. I'm pretty sure it's code 80. The circuit machine has saved me a lot of time. But I still enjoy the old fashioned scalpel approach 😂. I'm hoping I haven't made it too difficult for myself but we shall see. All the best Allan

Thank you Ian, the Mallard has been a bit of a mixed bag, firstly the original one had a fault with the mechanism somewhere and TMC were very good at getting it collected and sent for repair, eventually getting a new replacement only to have the valve gear fail shortly after running it in. However once again TMC were excellent and got it repaired and sent back to me again, the only thing I will say now is keep an eye on the drivetrain, a spare is supplied and I have made use of it as the original one fell out while I was installing and testing the decoder, as it needs to be detached to remove the tender body. All the best. Allan
