I would like to see how the handwheel and clutch assembly are put together. I have this machine, but the clutch is not engaging correctly. At first, it was not stopping the needle from moving during bobbin winding. I opened it up to see why, and now things are worse. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
@SewingMachineRepairsUK7 күн бұрын
It is really difficult to film the process of puting the hand wheel back together. when I get another one in I will try to film it. So keep checking back.

I have a sewing machine handed down by mother. When ever I start to use it. After a few minutes I smell a burning smell. Does it simply need cleaning and oiling or on its way out. It holds many memories I don't want to let it go.
@SewingMachineRepairsUK12 күн бұрын
The burning smell could just be dust burning off in the motor or it could be a capacitor in the foot control or the machine itself. Can you trace where the smell is coming from?

Brilliant video, I have 3 of these all early 1900's one was my nans and came to me when Dad passed away, 1 I bought for spare parts for £7 It also works lovely and 1 I bought as is near mint for age and all work great, different model though all with old shuttle long bobbin holder. Thank you. My machine is a 1471 that's almost 35 years old. I couldn't get the top off, but it doesn't matter. Oiling my machine made it run much better. (I had it serviced and then didn't use it for ages.) Had to replace the batteries, too, but fortunately the light still seems to be going strong.

Hi. I have the earlier model of this machine and I suspect the drive belt is displaced or broken as the motor spins but the mechanism doesn't turn. the motor will, however, turn the bobbin winder and the mechanism turns by hand.The model I have does not have the belt drive access plate on the side so I presume I have to either split the casing of replace the belt from the bottom. Am I on the right track and where can I get a replacement belt from? Thanks
@SewingMachineRepairsUK26 күн бұрын
Hi. If the bobbin is winding then the belt is not you issue. Maybe the bobbin winding mechanism is stuck in the engaged position. You will need to take the casing off to check
@nickmarshall701926 күн бұрын
@ I’ve taken the casing off and the belt is fine and turns the upper pulley but the pulley is not turning the shaft just spinning outside it. How is the upper pulley connected to turn the shaft as I can’t see how it drives it?
@SewingMachineRepairsUK26 күн бұрын
@@nickmarshall7019The bobbin winder pushes to the right to wind. It pushes a mechanism across to disengage the main shaft. When you push the bobbin winder to the left make shure the mechanism springs back to the left. If it doesn’t then you will have to get some oil into it to release it

I've been looking at a 509 and also been confused by the lack of an anti-rotation washer under the white central tension marker piece to lock it to the tension spindle. I felt sure it had been reassembled by the phantom twiddler. The reverse of the boss is toothed as though it ought to have some mating lock washer, but then it wouldn't sit deep enough to engage its stop pin with the one on the numbered outer metal knob. Oh well. Thank you for a helpful video for those of us less experienced. Have you considered offering a higher resolution? It would be very helpful to be able to see more detail of the parts you're adjusting.
@SewingMachineRepairsUKАй бұрын
Thank you for your comment. I think that the resolution is probably fine but I need to sometimes get the small parts nearer to the camera for viewers to be able to pick up on what I'm describing. As I'm usually really busy I am trying to get the machines finished in a timely manner whilst showing the basic service steps on You tube. I will try and show the finer details in my next batch of videos. I do appreciate your constructive criticism though. Terry

@@SewingMachineRepairsUK Closeups would be very helpful. I'm only offered the option of 360p which means the numbers on the stitch length selector aren't legible through being blurry - an HD option would be a brilliant help for home repairers. Of course I understand it's hard when videos are secondary to actually getting a machine ready for a customer. These machines seem quite hard to find information on, so it's great you've made this video. I'm giving my 509 away to a budding seamstress and it's great to have this video to check I've covered everything. My check spring was broken, so setting the new, slightly different one's tension is my current task. Thanks again.

Excellent tutorial, however, the only thing German thing about that machine is its name. The Cub series machines were made in Japan by the Jaguar company. I believe the Cub 4 is a rebadged Jaguar Mate Mark II. (Fantastic machines!)

Thank you for your comment. I agree it is made in Japan. It even says it on the label. My error. I was thinking in my head at the time that it was a German Company.
@ChristopherRuthVDO2 ай бұрын
@@SewingMachineRepairsUK You're absolutely correct. Frister & Rossman was (is?) a German company, but as happened with all the world's sewing machine manufacturers, they ended up importing Asian-made machines.
