Good setup! Make sure to put the noise texture directly on to the light itself instead of shining it through an alpha source. It's much faster in your renders to have it in that way! Remember that the light is throwing out rays that then get blocked by your object, but if you put it on the light itself as a light texture, it will instead turn on or off the lights in those areas directly.

HDRI link just allows me to view my HDRIs in a browser, you can just link them directly onto the dome light by selecting a file directly. If you need some HDRIs, look up “Poly Haven” for allot of free ones!

im trying to make a mask with AO node to create that gradient from top to bottom, but it just doesn't work when i plug it into blend material
@MatHaughney
@MatHaughney Жыл бұрын
I think I would just use a ramp node and another material, and change the angle so you could apply a darker material towards the top or bottom of the mountain if this is what you want

I don't understand why if I put the noise to the gradient I can't see the effect
@MatHaughney
@MatHaughney 2 жыл бұрын
If you mean adding 2 textures together for the displacment map: make sure you change the blending mode, and play with the opacity

@@MatHaughney how can I see the blending mode. I know this is a redshift tutorial, but what could happend if I use Octane Render with this tutorial as a referential method? I'm a beginner
@MatHaughney
@MatHaughney 2 жыл бұрын
The displacement map applied to the displacement modifier is separate from any maps applied threw the textures using redshift. So you can follow the tutorial all the way to texturing before having issues. Under the displacement modifier add a layer in shading. Then create your noise and gradient layers there. Blending modes will be displayed next to them. Default is “normal”

good job on the tutorial! i would recommend you try using a duplicated floor plane with a rock texture and displacement. (always give up on trying to scatter the stones individually :D ) also have a look at the redshift userdata tag with it you can randomize each instance in the matrix 👌 well done Thank you for sharing! :)
@MatHaughney
@MatHaughney 2 жыл бұрын
Depends if you want stones that look part of the floor or objects sat on it. I get what your getting at, they just offer different looks. For a scene like this that doesn’t have must surface. Stand alone rocks do the job. But yeah completely forgot about data nodes! I’ll remember for next time 👍

Cool! You can also add a shader graph in the spotlight, then add noise, you can then easily rotate, scale and offset the effect without having to add an actual object in front of the light.
@MatHaughney
@MatHaughney 2 жыл бұрын
Indeed! Good point! Main reason I use the plane and texture method is it can give the illusion of fake caustics without having to render any for under water scenes. Forgot to mention this in the video. Thank you for the input 😊

why rotate the camera?
@MatHaughney
@MatHaughney 2 жыл бұрын
Since I knew I was making more than one scene, it’s much easier to rotate the camera rather than every new object I added. That and rotating a plane with a large amount of polygons and displacements can be cumbersome in larger scenes.
