Taekwondo has a lot to offer but it’s critical to find a traditional and non competition based school, and one with real advancement standards and not one that gives away belts as long as you keep paying them. I did Taekwondo for several years as a kid and got my first degree at 15 years old. Looking back, it was appropriate that the taekwondo school shared a space with a dance studio because almost all we ever did was choreography. It was all practicing forms, drilling the same impractical techniques over and over, one step sparring, and sometimes breaking and light or no contact free sparring. None of which actually teach a person how to fight. There was no martial theory, no real self defense training. Even as a young teen, I knew that I was devoting all my free time and energy to something that was actually just kind of dumb. Taekwondo in its pure form is no joke, but unfortunately, most taekwondo schools are.

@AndoMierzwa
@AndoMierzwa Күн бұрын
Belts are always nice, but you should always have your own set of measurements. Ask yourself WHY you signed up... and then ask are you getting what you wanted? That's all that matters.

This video is highly underrated. There’s so much wisdom in these 14 odd minutes that you’ll probably find nowhere or learn the hard way after 14 years of experience. sensei, i had a question, i've been following ur videos for a while now, and they're genuinely helpful. That being said, is it normal to have sore chest, shoulders, and triceps due to continous involvement in punching ? Thank you for all your lessons! and ur humor is uncanny haha
@AndoMierzwa
@AndoMierzwa 12 күн бұрын
Howdy! Thanks for the kind words. Yes, soreness is a normal result of pushing yourself hard in a workout... but usually only in the beginning. At some point, your body should adapt to the activity. If you change up your style or add a new drill, you might feel sore again, but overall, you should feel more pumped than sore. I'd also suggest you get your hand BACK after punching just as fast as you throw it out. A little fatigue in the back and biceps is normal, too! Happy training!

Another TIP: Make sure to exercise your neck. I flex my neck every time I exercise my chest, shoulders and back at the gym, so that way I can exercise my neck muscles too. And from that, I can take so many jaw punches and head kicks, that it should've knocked me out, but didn't. You're welcome, I probably helped you in future reference.

Also make sure to take pain, so your pain tolerance will become better, so when someone punches you, it wouldn't hurt that much. Sparring would be best.

Great video. I started cardio kickboxing back in October and go once a week. While I know I'm not a world class fighter, I have at least improved my fighting abilities even if it's just 25%. I know how to jab, t cross, hook and uppercut. The trainer even told me from back when I first started, he's seen great improvement. I'm staying in shape, my stamina is good and probably better at age 36 than 25. I did take the next step and took a single class with a Golden Glove fighter. Just based off what I learned in kickboxing, I was able to translate it to the real boxing class. And whatever I learned from that day, I've been using it at cardio kickboxing. So yes, by taking those kickboxing classes, you're already putting yourself ahead of many people who know NOTHING about how to throw a single punch.

Thanks. I am stuck in a perpetual loop of doubt as to whether how I am doing things is the best way to do it and questioning everything I do.
