I just got back from JB, City Sq Mall. Bought 2 boxes of egg tarts plus 2 free , so 14 tarts for abt 60 ringgit... That works out to abt 1.40 sgd each..... How much did it cost at Bugis?

How does the food compared to JB's? I remember the chili not being spicy at all for me though😆We didn't usually queue for long in JB if we have it (going weekdays and off peak). But we have this in JB cos of the exchange rate😂

Visited the stall today. For viewers of this channel, note that you need to order dishes no set meal. If U are alone, may be it is too much for one pax especially for ladies if u order one main one side. One main from $10 if not wrong, chap chai $5 min. Average spending per pax $20. Best to order 3-4 dishes to share among 3-4pax.

Actually, most of the buak keluak (pangium) that we get in Singapore have already been detoxed in ash from the volcanoes in indonesia before they get shipped here so they're already safe for consumption, but people usually soak them in water for 5-7 days to get rid of the remaining ash and dust, as well as to soften and hydrate the flesh. Also, the tangy sour taste you get from the dish comes from the tamarind juice (aka assam) that has been incorporated into the gravy. Depending on the household recipe, some places also scoop out the flesh of the keluak and mix it into the gravy. That would be what we term "Rawon" style - much like the indonesian dish of nasi rawon but not as soupy. You might want to check out his Lo kai yik the next time you're there. It's a medley of chicken wings, offal, pork belly, cuttlefish, pig skin, water morning glory braised with fermented beancurd in red yeast and wine... Ahh it's heavenly... It's a dish that is soon to be extinct, and Charlie's is one of the last remaining places to have it in sg.
@wonderlustfood4 күн бұрын
Wow this is amazing! I hadn’t even thought about the whole shipping process etc! Sounds like a fun documentary to make!

that's glass noodles in the chap chye :D We pair the chili with the vegetables usually. It's cooked with fermented bean paste, no broth. May or may not have dried shrimp depending if the dish is vegetarian or not. It's a dish that tastes even better the next day.

For good authentic Cantonese dim sum, try Yi Dian Xin from Imperial Treasures. (My dialect is Cantonese and I grow up eating decent authentic dim sum, so we are suckers for good/affordable dim sum.😂) Swee Choon's menu for me is kind of a hit and miss. Wouldn't be the place I will think of going when I crave dim sum. Sze Chuan dumplings and Xiao Long Baos aren't from Canto region so imho they aren't exactly "dim sum".😂 First time we tried their char siew bao we gave it a thumbs down. It ranks even lower than some of those neighbourhood bao shops'. The one at Chinatown Complex (Mongkok Dim Sum) makes it way better and cheaper.
