Absolute peak DT, this album. Vocals are GREAT without drifting into cheesy operatics, and every song hits the perfect balance of chugging momentum, restrained but ass-kicking solos and progressive flourishes. And the keyboards never sounded better.

I read the comments, I have no clue as to ,4 4 time 6-12 thingy stuff , I just think everything they do is excellent, innovative, and different, since the first mtv video of "pull me under " I've been a listener

Awake, my third favorite DT album. The mix of it being dark and melodic is really well done.

Wow this has been online for 11 years now. I listen to this recording frequently for a very long time, it's probably my favorite Devin recording (which says a lot). Thank you very much anonymous friend for uploading this. Greatly appreciated.

I found this album hiding in my dad's collection when I was 10y/o in 2000, a budding guitarist. Dream Theater drove my guitar playing for the next 10 years before I decided to follow Steve Lukather.

This should have been a single 13 minute epic. I wonder why they split it,? seems no point.

Although I like these songs still.. I hear, why probably Kelvin Moore left at this point... He helped in creating a Majestic sound and vision for Dream Theater on Images&Words... But they then decided to turn heavier , and he didn t fit in the picture... To me, with him they lost their biggest and more original inspiration... Here you can hear DT miming Metallica, at times.. But James la Brie DON T have Hetfield s voice and sounds more like an angry parrot, rather than a groveling metal singer... They then had another chance with Shetinian, a pure Genius... But after that, their albums turned darker and darker and lost that magic inspiration, which brought them to create Unique Gems....

I love this Album. This one along with City, Undertow, Opiate, Nevermind, Life is Peachy, Adrenaline, Tomb of the Mutilated, Haunted, Vulgar Display of Power and Far Beyond Driven, Chaos A.D. and Roots, Portrait of an American Family, all the Metallica, Eminem, Eazy E, Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Dirt, All The Offspring, Pixies, Fear Factory, and Rob Zombie. SYL never achieved the same level of popularity, but deserved it. Nowadays almost everything is Sht. Hard Drinkers, Let's Drink Hard!
