Well done for starting on your home composting journey! If you keep adding new material, you will not get finished compost. Just close, keep and turn occasionally. Start a new box for your ongoing materials. Once composted, theolume does go down to about 1/10 anyway, but hopefully you will have finished compost that you can use for your plants, and the box becomes free to use.
