Hey, I know this is an old video, but I am racking my brain because I can't find a cabin air filter on this vehicle, and I don't see any in your video either. I've seen one video where they had some kind of AC intake filter in a European version of the vehicle found under the hood. The issue I'm having is that mine isn't leaking but it's cooling intermittently. My buddy who's a home AC tech and dabbles in cars said he suspects that the evaporator is clogged. Without a filter, I can imagine it would get clogged pretty easily. But watching your video shows that getting to it just to check and clean it is a very involved process. Do you have any advice or information to help me out or set my suspicions straight? I live in Louisiana, and these 90 degree F days are damn near dangerous for my kids without a working AC. I'm at the brink of biting the bullet and bringing it to a shop, but that would be dipping my emergency fund real low right before hurricane season, so obviously I want to sort it out myself if possible.

Don’t bother with a filter unless you park under a tree. I’m in the middle of replacing the evaporator on my 2003 Zx5 and was surprised at how few leaves and debris made it to the evaporator. Less than an 1/8th cup if I had to guess, that’s after nearly 20 years of driving it. My filter location is where you mentioned. It’s under the cowling between the windshield and hood on the passenger side. But it only filters when you’re pulling in outside air. When you’re on recirculate, or max AC, it doesn’t even use that filter.

08-11 focus American have no filter for cabin ( I know I know) . take off the cowl cover passenger side and you will see the screen which is the top part of this unit attached to the blower motor housing. FYI the screen can collect mice nests if parked outside a lot.

This is the model year of bad evaporator cores. Getting a using one was playing Russian Roulette. A new one would have ran from $50 on the low side to $100 bucks on the high. The aftermarket ones did not have the solder issues the OEM had. There was a lawsuit against Ford for this..

At the time of this video the cores were not available by itself. I work at a ford dealership in parts. You could only get the evap core with the new case back in 2013.

Hi Rammer, I have previously removed the dash on this model but not the entire heater unit as you have. How much more work roughly is it to remove after the dash is removed? The Air co has to be drained I read somewhere. Where are the final bolts or fixings that let you remove the unit out after they're undone?

The video title is Evap Case Break down. This video is for people that need to take apart the evap housing. If you dont know how to remove a dash this isnt a job for you. Ford sells as a whole housing rather than just an evap. Video was made to show how to take apart the case.

Ford Focus mk2, the dashboard isn't hard to get out... series of steps, driver's airbag, steering wheel, rotary coupler housing, the stereo unit, the instrument display unit, the heater controls don't forget to unplug all the connectors, the centre console... put your auto selector in the downmost position, i.e - D", then get the handbrake trim off followed shortly afterwards by the centre console. Next, the glove box compartment assesmbly. There are some pain torx bolts to get to but all is doable. Following all this and removal of the torx bolts at various locations, you should be able to remove the dashboard.

R2 D2 that’s because it’s a piece of shit Ford and the air doors are not serviceable separately. It’s put together in a way that you’re going to pay the same labor to replace the entire unit as you would to replace one small part. You’re better off replacing the entire unit because Murphy’s law. If you try to repair the broken air door something else will break a month down the road. Then you get to pay the labor to break it down a second time.

Thanks for the demo. I don't know enough to even know where this thing is put/pulled from the dashboard, but it is enough to give myself a basic knowledge of what someone else would do. Also good to know the 9-15K range, parts details, etc.
