This channel covers the study of bioengineering (it involves the study
of applied engineering practices, and principles in general biology) in
orthodontics, as well as the Burstone segmented arch technique.
Principles and procedures from the basic sciences are used.
No preparation in mathematics, higher sciences, or calculus
beyond traditional dental curricula is required. As for the mechanics of
rigid bodies required to solve orthodontic problems faced in the clinic,
it is usually studied in pre-university courses.
The segmented arch technique was developed
in the bioengineering center at the Connecticut University
at Farmington by engineers and
orthodontists researchers, headed by Charles Burstone.
Among them, we can mention Michael Marcotte.
This technique presents unique aspects, whether in
diagnosis (list of problems for a particular patient) or
in treatment (projects of orthodontic appliances).
