INCREDIBLY good! Played this 100x already, found it after looking for Malo- Suavacito, from back around 1971, still have the album...but these guys do both songs BETTER than the originals....I know its Meyer's tune but he cant come close to this-- Only wish these guys recorded...they probably dont know how really good they are!

I heard / saw Suavecito about 2 months ago when I turned on my cell phone & the video was playing, by Mal. I loved it immediately ❤❤. I spent the summer of '73 in the Bay Area, I was 15, visiting from Canada. Why Suavecito was magically playing that morning, I'll never know 👍😎🇨🇦

Hi. Do you remember the bridge spacing of this bass? I am interested in building one but am not sure I can go any wider with the spacing than .656". Warmoth did not seem to think it was a good idea to go any wider, but I have read that a 17mm (.669") spacing will work on a Gecko 6. Thanks.

+Anthony Hi Anthony. I found a pic the guy I bought it from had sent me. According to what he sent me, it was a Hipshot A-Style (#5A600), aluminum bridge with 17mm (.669") spacing. I didn't build it myself, I was the 2nd owner but this is what the original owner told me. Hope that helps

+chrismrod Hi. Did it seem okay? You didn't notice that the strings were too close to the edges of the fingerboard? Thanks. Anthony
@chrismrod

+Anthony Yes seemed fine to me. It was my 1st and only 6 string bass I've owned but yeah it felt fine. I have a few good pics of the bass & fingerboard I can email you if you want, just let me know where to send
@Anthony-ns4fn
@Anthony-ns4fn 8 жыл бұрын
+chrismrod No, I don't need any pictures of the fingerboard. Just wanted to know what you thought, as I will probably go with the 17mm spacing instead of the tighter spacing Warmoth seems to recommend. Thanks, though!

+chrismrod I'm a bass player also, which is why I could appreciate the work you were putting in! (and your bass face :). Actually though, this video seems to be the only live sample I've found of a Hilton bass online.
@chrismrod
@chrismrod 8 жыл бұрын
+longdongbongchong Yeah I searched for videos of Hilton basses when I was buying it and found there aren't many. The guy (Daniel Paduck) who bought this 1 after me posted 2 videos of it just playing solo so you can hear it much more clearly than in my video with my band. Also 2 other players who posted videos of their Hilton's, check out KZbin channels for JohnnyDecker and also PJBassVideos. If you're considering a Hilton, they are killer basses. You may know he apprenticed with Carl Thompson and Pete Hilton's basses are works of art!

+Almer Calinisan Thanks appreciate the comments! It was a nice bass but helped me realize I don't do well with 6'ers. I sold the bass quite some time ago but I'm pretty sure the bridge was aluminum to help try keep the weight down.

I bought this el camino and had shipped over from Texas If you want some pictures. to see how I stripped it down and completely restored it let me know. I rebuilt the motor, swapped out the suspension front and rear brought it all the way down to metal and brought it back up only now it's light blue metallic.

Sounds excellent! I'm currently awaiting a Warmoth build right now. I decided on a Bart NTMB preamp, but am having a hard time deciding what pickups to go with it. I understand that the ones you're using are the "Original Bass" series that some people refer to as dark and muddy, but I don't think that's the case at all based on what I'm hearding (and others). Would you recommend the quad-coil original bass pups, or the more open-sounding classic bass type? Also... How are your pickup coils wired in this recording?
@chrismrod
@chrismrod 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam, which I had more info for you but I was not the original owner of the bass. I bought it used on eBay...wanted to give a 6 string for a try for the 1st time without buying new. I don't have any specs on which Bart PU's these were or how the original owner had them wired. For what its worth, I've had Bart JJ's on my 90's Fender Jazz and also had Bart soapbars on a Roscoe bass and I'd have to say the soapbars on this Warmoth sounded very similar overall to the other Barts I've had. Its pretty subjective but to me, they sounded nice & warm, but some may consider that to be "dark & muddy" though. I've had EMG' PU's in other basses and the Barts are VERY different sounding than those. Hope that helps:)

hi! nice sound by the way! I'm considering a Warmoth 6 string, and i want to know if had to make some room for the Bartolini Pickups, or their size fitted just well in the pick up cavity! Thanks!
@chrismrod
@chrismrod 10 жыл бұрын
I bought this bass used on eBay but as I understood it, the pickups fit directly into the cavities the original owner had pre-drilled when he ordered the body from Warmoth. Hope that helps:)

Hi JC. I'd always wanted to try a 6 string, it was my fist one. I gave it a shot for a few months but ended up selling it on TalkBass. After going thru several basses in the last year or so I've come to realize I am most comfortable on a 34" 5 string bass with 18mm spacing or wider...so I'm sticking with that formula going forward.

Fantastic playing as well as sounding and looking Gecko 6! Reminds me of my 4 & 5-string Spector Euro Bolt-Ons "ZeBops" that have not just 1/8" top of looks or 1/4" that can influence the tone of a Bass but actually over HALF (7/8") of the Spector bodies, which are more than the Alder backs! I also have 2 Flame Maple-topped Spectors of with *exact* the same Pickups & Preamps to judge the differences in wood & tone, and I've found that the FMs have a "sweetness" while the Zebras have "PUNCH!"
