Wow I'd never heard this before. Great track. Powerful. Great background video while showing the lyrics. The ending clip is great too.

You really had to LISTEN to get this, it was a conversation. You could never assume how he would tell a story, lyrics were everything. I can say with 100 percent confidence that he cared SO MUCH ABOUT THE ART, his art was all that fucking mattered to him. He has never been about judgements, violence, ignorance, all he wanted us to know is that he had an AMAZING gift far far different than most of what's come out the last 30 years. The only time he used aggression, for the most part, was to call out these players coming up in the game, the new game in the 90s. The 80s were kind to rap and hip hop. It was so new and accepted, it was THE gateway to success in the art of rap. DMX has been doing this a loooooong time. I know he knew the MCs from the 80s, I bet they were friends. They all came into the 90s swinging as MVPs, and made some incredible music. I have now listened to "What's My Name" enough times to know who he was calling out. Diddy, Jay Z.. I knew that DMX had some major issues with the way the rap industry was moving, and I swear he's talking about Justin Bieber in "Already." Fun facts.

Funny thing when I first heard the song and used to hear it without lyrics I thought the last guy was Trump's voice, especially when he says, "I want that *** dead I want him dead" then it goes to the other impatient voice; come to realize it's Robert De Niro as Al Capone

Look around 1:02 Someone says, "He's my son" idk if he was referencing his dad Looking back this song was one of my favourite songs of his but now after his father told the truth about a lot of things in his life, how he was lied to, it really makes you feel sad Especially when you hear lyrics like, "I'm thinking bout my daddy madder than a m*****" coming from a grown man He really wanted to see him, but they wouldn't let him Watch 2pac's father's interview with Art of Dialogue to hear the full story

Rapper Tech N9ne was one of the signees for the label, however he was released from the label due to creative differences. In 1997, Jam and Lewis resigned as the label's CEOs, but remained consultants. had to have been after 97 because he's talkin about the fall out with perspective records. im guessing from 2000. he said "been dead for 4 years" because the earliest i see that this song was released was in 02 tech mentions ruffhouse records, tommy boy records didnt sign him. he mentions making songs with quincy jones & tupac, that was 96.

This awesome story happened because Drag On challenged DMX to see how fast he could write a song as he was working on his first record. 90 minutes later Damien 1 was complete
