Awesome amount of information! Thanks!! Just wanted to ask do you think 3 layers are ok for HEMA, if the jacket overlaps at the front? i.e. are 3 layers ok for shoulders and arms?

The part which says that foot precedes weapon can be misunderstood because the body and the sword must be moved at the same time to give enough strength and inertia to the weapon

I have had this Moka Cam for over 8 months and it still does not work, the team are not competent to fix the issue and run you around in circles with the same questions, over and over and over again. They also refuse to issue refunds and seem very unprofessional in their engineer capabilities. WARNING..! DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM

the white-collared fencer does not react to attacks. I have never seen anyone from the Fiore dei Liberi school stand still without launching a counterattack. But maybe I've never seen it from any other fencing school.

i fight sca rapier every week. ill give it a try next time practice side note: if this stuff excites you, find a local HEMA, SCA, or even sport fencing group and they would love to have you join their ranks. if you are close to a university or well funded school, chances are they have something

Italian fencer : "If I hold my sword in front of me the other dude will kill himself on it"
@lionhearthistoricaleuropea11865 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's what beginners do. That's the kind of fencing you can expect from someone who is sparring for the first time. This is low quality fencing because the participants were beginners.

But fiore is known for its parries and footwork not this while lichtenauer or meyer is more on the offensive. Also you forgot fiore's plays of the sword grapples and disarms.
@lionhearthistoricaleuropea11865 жыл бұрын
As the video description explains, both of these students are beginners. Both of them had very little training, and neither of them had even sparred before (though several of Fiore's guards are used, as shown). Neither of them knew anything about grappling or disarms. They didn't forget them, they simply had no experience with them. In our club no one would be permitted to do grappling as a beginner. Beginners cannot use skills which take many months to learn.

If the vambrace wasn't supposed to act both as a vambrace and the couter, the issue wouldn't be there.
@vitiare5 жыл бұрын
Not a fair comparison, since the Italian fencer was pretty much just defending and letting the German attacker do whatever he wanted. Either he's inexperienced, or he's letting the German fighter perfect his forms.
@lionhearthistoricaleuropea11865 жыл бұрын
As we note in the video description, both fighters were very inexperienced beginners. They had less than a year of experience between them, and neither of them knew very much about what to do. This was their first actual sparring session. This is not represented as a historically accurate depiction of an encounter between these two systems. We're surprised that this is overwhelmingly our most viewed video, despite the fact that it's so short, it's a video of two beginners, and it was uploaded over three years ago.

The AlphaS was a very good camera for its time, definitely better than the comparable GoPro, especially at its price point. The Alpha3 Pro looks like an even better deal, especially for just shy of US$200; 4K@60fps and 1080@240fps will be fantastic for HEMA.

Red needs to lead with the sword rather than the feet (4:20). Blue can see all your strikes coming miles ahead and react with an abzetzen accordingly because your feet give away your intentions to strike before the sword is actually swinging to hit.

Agreed. Nearly every attack, red steps before clearing the space. Good way to get dead

You said that newer models of the Galahad are more stiff and resistent, would you suggest a galahad or a morhold?
@lionhearthistoricaleuropea11865 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried the new Galahad. My Galahad only weighs 1.3kg, which is extremely light and makes it unusable in certain tournaments (which have upper weight limits). It's great for training, but I prefer a heavier weapon, so I prefer the Morholt.

Would You recommend this gambeson for full contact longsword sparring?
@lionhearthistoricaleuropea11866 жыл бұрын
I have used it for full contact longsword sparring. However, I prefer to use a modern HEMA jacket with 800 Newton rated material and better breathability. I use a Neyman fencing jacket for longsword. kzbin.info/www/bejne/goSUpJ17lq6eh9E

There are just a couple of drawbacks to a historical gambeson. 1. Less breathable than modern materials. 2. Less durable than modern materials. 3. Less protective than modern materials. It's also a little too thick to wear under brigandine, though you could definitely wear mail over it.
