All my life I failed to see One good thing standing in front of me And the planets gravitate around you And the stars, the stars surround you And the angels in heaven adore you And the saints, the saints all stand and applaud you What can I give you? What can I give you in return? The shadow came creeping, a criminal That you chased, babe, from my life And sometimes when I'm sleeping I see him shuffle against the night Oh, he's waiting, yeah he's waiting to return And each step I take moves me one step below you And you must stoop in order to console me Help me, help me, help me, please reach down and collect me What can I give you? What can I give you in return? Galaxies collide; they shower down around you And I searched, I stumbled and then I found you In your robe, in your crown, reaching low, babe Reaching low down to the ground What can I give you? What can I give you in return?

I'm old, 58, and just found out about Rory Gallagher 2 weeks ago. Wow ! I'm a music fan going back to Iron Maiden and Van Halen in the early 80's. How did I never hear Rory until 2024 ? Glad I have now. Better late than never !

I don’t find this funny at all. I lost my 20 year old son … and I typed in “I miss my son”… this showed up… some things shouldn’t be joked about… abd if you disagree with me then you don’t know the pain of those four words

You take care of everyone Nick Cave. In your own time and possibly unknowingly, you send a song so meaningful it stuns me like you meant it personally for me. Your amazing words make me a better person. Thank You.

I believe this song is about Blixa. Nick revered him as a mythical hero, deity-like otherworldly being. Blixa held Nick together for many years. I think that this song is a thank you to him. Blixa was a subject of lots of Nick’s songs over the years. Sure miss those lads playing together.

He’s singing to Jesus Christ
@PatientenO.T.3 ай бұрын
@@waterdragon2012 Nick has always had a difficult relationship to God. He still does, he talks about it all the time and his conversations events. Nick called Blixa Bargeld his godlike tower of strength who saw him through many hard times, in an interview, he’s never said that about Jesus Christ ever. He still denies being a Christian after all these years.
@waterdragon20123 ай бұрын
@@PatientenO.T. have you read his book? I think you might be surprised to find he really does believe. He doesn’t call himself Christian because he doesn’t want to be associated with the stereotype

@@PatientenO.T.there are a lot of other songs that confess his devotion to Christ if you search, for example in Magneto he sings “My monstrous little memory had swallowed me whole It was the year I officially became the bride of Jesus”

People just ain't no good I think that's well understood You can see it everywhere you look People just ain't no good We were married under cherry trees Under blossom we made our vows All the blossoms come sailing down Through the streets and through the playgrounds The sun would stream on the sheets Woken by the morning bird We'd buy the Sunday newspapers And never read a single word People they ain't no good People they ain't no good People they ain't no good Seasons came, seasons went The winter stripped, the blossoms bare A different tree now lines the streets Shaking it's fists in the air The winter slammed us like a fist The windows rattling in the gales To which she drew the curtains Made out of her wedding veils People they ain't no good People they ain't no good People they ain't no good at all To our love send a dozen white lilies To our love send a coffin of wood To our love let all the pink-eyed pigeons coo That people they just ain't no good To our love send back all the letters To our love a valentine of blood To our love let all the jilted lovers cry That people they just ain't no good It ain't that in their hearts they're bad They can comfort you, some even try They nurse you when you're ill of health They bury you when you go and die It ain't that in their hearts they're bad They'll stick by you if they could Ah, but that's just bullshit, baby People just ain't no good People they ain't no good People they ain't no good People they ain't no good, at all

Oh just fucking hell. I was feeling bereft after hearing the Apple Music remastered version of this. I had to delete a bunch of music for room from my devices so let Apple play a 2011 version. Which DESTROYS the emotion by 75% imho. I don’t know how KZbin works w/ algorithms but I hope any new comment makes this higher up the search list. Still removing the chills from my spine at the slowest possible rate. I knew remastered messed w songs a lot but damn. It destroyed this perfect song.

The boatman calls from the lake A lone loon dives upon the water I put my hand over her Down in the lime tree arbour The wind in the trees is whispering Whispering low that I love her She puts her hand over mine Down in the lime tree arbour [Chorus] Through every breath that I breathe and every place I go Well, there is a hand that protects me And I do love her so [Verse 2] There will always be suffering It flows through life like water I put my hand over hers Down in the lime tree arbour The boatman, he has gone The loons have flown for cover She puts her hand over mine Down in the lime tree arbour [Chorus] Through every word that I speak and everything I know Well, there is a hand that protects me And I do love her so

although put as a bonus on photo finish (1978), i suspect this is one of rory's songs from "torch", the scrapped album from the mid-1980s, because that drumming sounds totally like Brendan O'Neill, not Ted McKenna, to me. Putting it on photo finish might have been like putting "persuasion" (1977, scrapped SF album) on deuce (1971).
