That's it burning off the upper cylinder lubricant put in through the plug holes (that's what the 2 mechanics were doing at the start of the video) burning off. Very healthy engine❤❤

Was the initial smoke from oil in the combustion chambers to help with cold-start compression, or did they just build them that loose so that they had to warm up a bit to seal up?

They take the plugs out every time the car is cold and lubricate the cylinder bores for upper cylinder lubrication. As with every car, the most wear in an engine is when the engine is cold. Probably the best sounding GP car ever built❤❤❤

The proper starting procedure for this car involves warming up the engine oil before cranking the engine, so safe to say that engine isn't cold when the driver is revving it up.

I’ve seen this far many many cars of this era on KZbin… many many … old F1 cars. Pretty sure this is an established method in the industry and pretty sure they know better than any of us

Sadly you are showing your lack of knowledge in the matter. This is standard procedure for GP engines of the era, these guys know exactly what they are doing.

Keby premazal raz za čas zvislé čapy ramien riadenia nemusel točiť volantom ako Rambo .A naučiť sa radiť ako sa patrí , ten prostredný pedál pod nohami je brzdový tak ručnú len pri zaparkovaní . TATRA znesie aj takého ,, vodiča ,, ale si ho už pre svoj vek nezaslúži .

None, expect for rod bearing change once a year. It's been running strong 300+ race hours
