Just into full rocker mode. Another year and the majority of bikes would have clip ons. Great stuff, what memories! Thank you.

yea i love this stuff too, & a few years after that....& they'd have ape hanger bars on with the front end raked right up & out with longer forks...& perhaps the oil running to the back of the engine haha.

Yea i know 1970s plates but not 50s & 60s plates so not sure of the exact year. but must be mid 60s ish haha. think any much earlier & wouldnt have had so many studs & stuff on their jackets. & much later & might have seen more high type handle bars on the bikes with choppers gaining favor in late 60s. maybe someone who knows 60s plates & cars can date it.

I really loved this film. Visually its outstanding. Excellent b&w cinematography. The highway motorcycle race is really well filmed. Probably the most awesome collection of Ton Up - Rocker motorcycle jackets you'll ever come across on film. Images around the great old Ace Cafe are superb. All the acting is excellent. Rita Tushingham is too believable as the cockney "Mrs". I understand that the story it toned down from the book on which its based. Some criminal behavior and more overt gay themes are removed. But they weren't necessary to make this film work. It's fairly obvious early on that the "Pete" character is not interested in girls. And it seems to me that depicting "Reggie" as clueless about his new best friend's homosexuality works better than depicting him as bisexual. That would be confusing. I very much liked the way this story played out as well as the glimpse into British working class life in the early 1960s. And I like the way the story ends, which I won't give away here. All in all a really neat film from the standpoint of the fine acting, visuals and story line. Highly recommended.

growing up Rita was the 1960s, Fury, Cliff, Lynch, Tarbuck, Black, Dodd, and Tushingham were household names, Sunday Night at the Palladium days, royals variety shows, the British new wave of music, acting, dressing, everything, they were THE in crowd, the ones to watch, it all changed so fast between 68-69

Think Some riders back then and now preferred the look of motorbikes with out mirrors on. While maybe back then they couldn't afford to buy them. For me...i want my mirrors on to see what's going on behind me... especially 'police cars' haha.

I can remember back in the day riding my BSA C15 250 wearing an open face helmet an old pair of oily jeans and a worn out leather jacket covered in patches and metal studs, in summer I wore a tee shirt and in winter I wore a woolly jumper and I rode my bike 7 days a week in all weathers to work and for pleasure,, back then nobody was bothered about the size of your bike, everyone with a bike was seen as a biker and bikers stuck together and got on with each other, bikers were a much tougher breed back then and a lot younger, no waterproofs and gloves or even a visor, yet still rode all over the country, night and day, now the only bikes I see on the road during winter are scooters and 125s, biking is a much different world now for sure. I still ride my bike an old Kawasaki ZZR 600 to work and back, 60 miles everyday and I am in my 60s.

Yea in the mid 70s when still at my parents house. like most bikers then it was my only way to get to work... (1975 t140v 750) rain..ice..thick snow whatever. frozen & fingers stinging haha. but now just about to retire in few days i have to admit im a bit of a sunny day rider. can catch all the best days instead of being at work. roll on summer haha.

I lived close to the A20 in Kent in the early 1960's, and this film revives memories of gangs of ton up boys speeding down the road on their way to Brands Hatch, Johnson's Café and to the south coast resorts on summer Sundays. The film music doesn't fit to well, 'Terry' by Twinkle would be a lot more appropriate 😎!
@kennethhart8422
@kennethhart8422 22 күн бұрын
Yea had a feeling the music wouldn't suit everyone. Prob most. but got the idea somehow & it wouldn't go away so just used it to get it out & do something bit different as theirs a few clips of the same bike scenes on here as well as the full film. ideally a rock n roll track or something woud be better but most best/suitable ones can't be used for copyright reasons & this was ok to use. if i find something ok to use one here i might do it again & maybe mix in bits of reg & Pete's race around the north circular.

@@kennethhart8422 Thanks for posting the clip - all very evocative and nostalgic for us old 'uns who remember how it was back in the day! 'Motorbiking' by Chris Spedding could be an alternative for the sound track, but of course there are many possibilities according to taste.
