I probably could have used them to attack the terran at the end. The first time I played this mission I tried using them instead of dropping units off with overlords, but it did not go well. Their anti air was very strong. They made devourers, valkyries, goliaths, hydralisks, and they used defilers with dark swarm. They made short work of my fleet and it was ridiculously expensive.

Frimpton-on-Sea Quite tight win with the money :D Simpleton "Someone has got stuck. Plan your hospital better." forever lol. Good thing you had some extra hospital value as the inflator exploded right when you were going to win Greenpool The psychiatry patients waited in line far away. After building the trapped extra research department, the game bugged into thinking that anything you would place anywhere would block passage there (since there wasn't way to get there anyway) - hence you were unable to place radiators or rooms after that Manquay I've observed placing the screen directly next to operating theatre door makes surgeon glitches much more probable. This time there were no issues Eggsenham The eq was brutal, too bad the quicksave was too late Croaking 3:41:04 looks stupid fun when the 3 researchers are jacking the cabinet Fantastic run! Almost broke the 5h mark. Every run you are getting much better at the game. I think you are using pretty much all the tricks I could think of and more, so no major improvements here imo. Thanks for posting it and sorry for having you wait for the review!
@TheObserver429

I didn't realize that was the issue with Greenpool. I obviously didn't know so I was just waiting for it to end. I pretty much always build the screen by the door because I consider it to be the most efficient, but if that is what causes the bug, maybe I will reconsider its placement. I woke up in the middle of the night and could not go back to sleep so I started playing this. I did not think I was going to do the whole game. I was not fully awake by the time I hit Eggsenham. I was kind of dozing off and waking up. That is why at times I wasn't really active. I woke up when I hit Battenberg. I think I have that hospital down better than any other. Don't worry about it. 5 hours is a long time. 2.5 hours if you watch it in 2 times speed. Either way it is a long time if you are busy.

One of the unusual things about this mission is the fact that the clock goes down faster than real time. The entire video including the beginning and end is less than the timer descended. They really do not give you that much time to do this.

Sorry for taking time before reviewing. It's not because of for a lack of interest - that is quite the opposite - but for I was very busy with work and other stuff last week First off, the room item placements were beautiful this time. I’m especially amazed by how you found an even better-optimized pharmacy layout. Nurse rooms to same building, great strat Using auto-psy and concentrating research, nice additions. I always disissed them as unnecessary, probably superficially. As you had to quickload less after eqs, it now feels like it is worth it It was exciting to hear you actually tried the strat of putting juniors to GP to maximise profit. Would have been funny to see the aftermath of the run where you sacked all the handymen in the end :D The surgeons sure trolled you a lot this run lol I knew that epidemic patient leaving building for another counts as failing the epidemic, hence I always abused the "delete reception" glitch. I was not aware that this is a bug in the GOG version and works differently on CD. That's a double exclamation finding by you in my opinion I think you should search for the formula grandpas more aggressively and fire the slowpokes. Many times patients were waiting for handyman to repair some machine, and ofc it was the slowest one from opposite part of the hospital I feel like you should build toilets next to operating theatre. I noticed many patients quit before treatment there and I think they are more enduring waiting for surgery if there is a toilet around That being said it was really smooth and fast run with many minute nuances added in. It’s clear you took suggestions to heart and found ways to go beyond expectations. Thank you for the run and the explanatanions, it was really interesting and enjoyable! Going to review the all hospitals easy as soon as possible
@TheObserver429
@TheObserver429 13 күн бұрын
No problem. I understand that you have other obligations. tbh I was amazed you didn't have to quickload more on your run. Your handymen really did a good job of handling your repairs. The jellitis machine is very weak without any improvements. I tried so many different strategies to get there that I would be surprised if someone finds a way to win 1 year earlier on hard. Yeah. The surgeons were not being very nice this time around. The game definitely has some elements of randomness that you have to accept while other elements kill the run. The epidemics on this level can be brutal enough to kill the run. I had one time where they just kept giving them to me over and over again. Before I started doing speedruns or even started my channel, I actually played Theme Hospital on the CD. I think it was maybe a year or two ago. It has alot of issues, but the epidemics failing after they leave a different part of the hospital for another was not one of them. The game on the CD unfortunately does not play as well as it did when it came out. There are alot of problems with the mouse not moving like it is supposed to and sometimes the mouse will freeze and not move for a little bit. That is why I ended up playing the GOG version. I like to play my games off of the CD if I can, but unfortunately it is not always possible. Firing the bad raking grandpas is a good idea. I didn't think of that. At first I did build toilets next to the operating theater. I agree that there is an obvious benefit to it. It keeps them in line longer. What made me stop was the game kept failing me on epidemics because the person I needed to cure was in the bathroom and they wouldn't move. I know that sounds ridiculous, but that is why I stopped building them. I know it might take you some time to review a five hour video. I understand. There is no rush.

I applaud you for these runs. You have embodied the theory of constraints ("Improvement made anywhere besides the bottleneck is a false improvement") by focusing on the most pressing win conditions (cures or cash), something I did not implement much in my runs. I tried to play all levels the same with pretty much same style. Lowering treatment costs when cures are more important seems really obvious now, but back then I failed to consider that at all. I was also probably too excited to show the world of the epidemic skip glitch that I implemented it too often, skipping good money. l think you made some really clever decisions along the way - it was really interesting to see your take on some of the levels and optimized strategies, like avoiding building machines immediately to negate potential earthquake damage. I was initially seeing red with the lack of optimization for some of the rooms (e.g. psychiatrist sofa not next to door, GP cabinet not always next to telephone of desk, etc), but I must concede it is probably not relevant in the grand scheme of things. I was delighted to see you use same philosophy in design of the hospitals as I have done - to make them crammed into smaller space to make them as efficient as possible, and to leave all unnecessary items (plants, bins, fire extinguishers, windows) out If you are planning to run this still in the future, I have some recommendations to polish the run even more: - Set "send home" and "guess at cure" to same value in hospital policy view as soon as possible. Then you will stop receiving faxes on "what should we do with this patient". Every time you change menus (e.g. fax view) you lose approximately 1 second, so you'll save a lot of time in the long run - Study individual rooms: what is the routine path of the patient, what is the routine path of the doctor/nurse, and try to minimize those. Especially rooms such as GP, GD, psychiatrist and pharmacy would be important. For example, often the GD ended up with screen on top of the door and equipment below (e.g. Croaking hospital), which results in the patient having to walk all the way around, 4 times. The items should be other way around - the diagnostics can be sped up dramatically with that little change - Plan the exact layout you want to do for your hospital in detail in advance and stick with it. It's debatable whether this is worth it, but I myself found it very helpful technique. I think you had the initial rooms planned, but later rooms were sometimes more awkward in some levels You wondered about the quicksave / quickload hotkeys. If memory serves me right, those are alt+S and alt+L. I always try to quicksave before earthquakes to not lose like 3 rooms as happened at one point One hypothesis I'd like to see experiments on is that fulfilling any of the 4 win conditions might be a major factor in the inflow of new patients. This would imply that rushing hospital value might be good strategy. (But buying more buildings -> handymen go travel the world, need to block them or not build rooms in the new buildings) I enjoyed the chilled commentary with some insights to your thinking. Unfortunate that the audio balance in Battenberg makes it difficult to hear what you say Maybe you will do the full game speedrun in one session some day, I would like to watch it :) and sorry for the wall of text. Thank you for posting the runs, it was really nice to watch!
@TheObserver429
@TheObserver429 Ай бұрын
Thank you for writing this comment. You are as always right on point. My ideas on how to optimize each level obviously make sense for these individual runs, but what you did makes more sense for the whole hospital run that you did. It is very difficult to implement some of these strategies so it is risky to do them in a whole hospital run. Some of the placement of the objects in the rooms on some of these levels was indeed not optimal. I hope I didn't make you too angry. lol. I think I might have even mentioned the bad room designs in some of the levels in my commentary. I am pretty fast, but I am not professional speedrunner fast so I sometimes just placed the objects in there. I definitely did use your style after confirming what you already know. I did not make a video about my research on the effects of putting objects in each room vs. not doing it, but I did put up a crazy video on the research room and another one on the training room. While I was doing those videos I studied the effects of having more objects in rooms vs. no extra objects. I have seen you use the "send home" and "guess at cure" policy before. I agree that it can save some time, but I personally prefer to see them. Why? I want to know when one of my non consultants has walked into the GPs office. When I start receiving those I check the GPs office to see if I have to kick them out. If I have all consultants, then obviously I should turn it on. I agree that I should have done more planning on the rooms on some of these levels. Some of them were definitely pre-planned but definitely not all of them. Your hypothesis is correct for the most part. Hospital value is obviously important in driving patients into the hospital. It is a win condition, but some of the other win conditions have no effect. From my observations, the flow of patients is controlled by a complex algorithm that takes into effect alot of different things including things that you might not think of: hospital value, temperature, thirst level, reputation, the cost of treatment, how well your staff is trained, prestige, etc. In these old games these things are not laid out for us. Yeah. I don't know what happened to the audio on Battenburg. It is so weird. I watched the video before uploading it and the audio was fine. Audio is such a challenge. Once a video is released though, any boost that it will get in the algorithm is lost if you take it down and re-upload it. I kind of figure that most people aren't even going to watch it that far anyway. I wish it wasn't screwed up though because I used a pretty clever strategy there. It was a nod to my research room video. I have considered doing a full run in the back of my mind, but I don't think I will even make it. 5.5 - 6 hours of play with no breaks is not easy for me. I am glad you enjoyed it. It was inspired by your run and by the fact that you said it could be done in like 5 hours. That is why the total run time is approximately five hours.

The simple answer is that I play in a more "hardcore" fashion for my playthroughs on this channel. I just roll with the punches and try to avoid reloading as much as possible. Sometimes reloading is unavoidable, but in this case I chose to gamble by clicking the goat shrine and I lost 10% of my mana pool and gained +2 levels to firebolt. One of many things that were way better in the first game. The prices in lotr1 were dynamic, changing depending on what you bought and sold in the past (exchange rate getting worse, for example if you dumped a lot of grain or wool into the market, the prices of these articles would go down). Also many merchants did not sell all items. Weapons were really expensive too - and to build a knight unit, you had to get both swords and mail, not just mail as in lotr2. I whish we had lotr1 economy and battle units (including morale) combined with lotr2 graphics and music and campaign maps.
@TheObserver429
@TheObserver429 3 ай бұрын
I like both games. I did a playthrough of Lords of the Realm and also made videos comparing the two games. Lotr 1 is definitely the harder game. I would not go as far as to say I want a straight lotr economy, but I do think the economy in Lotr 2 could have been more challenging than just buying wheat and forgetting about cows. Making weapons in Lotr 1 took way too long imo. It took years to make 50 weapons even when you had hundreds of people trying to do it. That is kind of absurd imo. I think Lotr 2 was right to make the game more fast paced especially since it came out in the RTS era that was dominated by Warcraft 2. Another feature that would be great would be if you could siege the custom made castles that people can design. Designing a castle in Lotr was a very unique feature of that game.
@marcinjackowski8898

@TheObserver429 As a game, I also prefer lotr2. It is a shame however, that it was so dumbed down since lotr1, with awesome and unusual mechanics being removed (price system, battle morale). I remember the forum, where developers of lotr3 were also present, we players had a whish list, almost all wanted the sheep back! They decided to go in opposite direction, focusing on real time with pause, dumbing it down yet again, with unfortunate results for the franchise.
