This is the year Kyrie became a dominant scorer. He had gotten injured in 15-16 after averaging 19 points in like 26 games, and he had always been a 20-22 point scorer the few years before LeBron came there. In that historic 2016 run he started to creep into the 25+ range reserved for elite scorers, and hasn't gone below that mark since. Like Steve Kerr did for Curry, it was Ty Lue who unleashed Kyrie and told him to make something happen every time he touched the ball.

Even at his worst from a health standpoint, he still wasn't bad. His shooting splits at the time of his retirement announcement (29%fg/19%3pt) were bad but he got em both up by 10 points by season's end which signals good splits later in the seasons. He also averaged a career low in turnovers (1.9) And of course he still had the prettiest jumpshot. Its satisfying to watch him snap the nets RIP Kobe

The game was just too fast paced by then for a already aged Kobe to come back off a injury like that. He still had his skill set, but he was far too slow after that to be effective on a halfway nightly basis even. It's messed up because I honestly think he would've still been a 22 to 24 guy on some of his highest shooting efficiency for a few more years for not the tear.

Awesome upload!! Rly good stuff. Thank you for the content & work putting this together. Something I always wondered - in the first min or so every time Kobe launches a long jumper he lands w his feet rly spread out, wide apart. Anyone have any idea why he started doing this? Was it to help soften the landing & cater to his heel after the achilles injury? Thanks in advance for any response.
@drewmukherjee5959
@drewmukherjee5959 11 ай бұрын
I noticed that wide landing too. Most likely for the exact reason you mentioned. Probably couldn't get proper balance without a wide landing either. Otherwise he was probably trying to put too much pressure on the heel to get balance this way he was able to spread out the pressure over the entire foot and also his quads.

Kyrie plays basketball at a level of a surgeon. You can have all the understanding of how he does it and even the ability to ignore the pressure, but you still have to have to be very good with your hands. These are moves many players are capable of in the NBA, particularly small guards, but none of them are as precise with every basketball move. That's just God-given balance and hand-eye coordination.

2009 Playoffs First Rd vs Jazz Game 4 . . . That’s the game every young kid should watch, it’s the definition of Mamba Mentality !! One game prior Gm 3 Kobe for what ever reason couldn’t buy a basket (it happens to the best of em). But he followed it up with what I think was the most impressive display of will and determination of his playoff career !
