Viva la boldhead Pilots! 💡

Luckily sailplane’s pilots know they can’t fly in clouds, so you don’t risk to collide with one of them. By the way, I think it’s the same for paragliders. It reminds me of a sentence read in an old free fly magazine: what’s worse than hearing his vario while getting cloudsucked? Hearing another’s one vario…
@russellm75305 ай бұрын
Wow at 1:58 that aircraft far below you? Im not a pilot but that seems kind of scary thinking about a plane coming out of one of those clouds and getting hit. That's on top of getting sucked into it. I don't know maybe para gliding isnt for me anyway. Anyway be safe and God bless all of you.
@phillippierce59746 ай бұрын
What? Didn't anybody teach you about this? A sailplane instructor taught me about this in 1968 when I was a kid. Study up on meteorology before you kill yourself.

Jesus Man, get your nose down - that was thermalling, not spiralling. Nose down will be 15-20m/s - you only need a proper deep spiral for 5-10 seconds and you're golden... The final one at 2:58 was actually a spiral, the earlier ones not, and it was slow as hell - and you stayed in it for only 2 turns... You can clearly see you have barely a 45 degree banking outside of the 2 proper spiral turns... If you need to get out the sky, do it properly... SIV time 🙂

well.. at least it confirms my stance that i fly my glider somewhere else when i see a paraglider get sucked into the mist of a bigger cloud..

Interesting how people can‘t judge weather beforehand and just fly under big clouds they can‘t handle. Then, doing nothing but pushing the speed bar. No ears, no spirals. As soon as they are finally in the clouds they panic and try small spirals. As soon as they see a little bit clearer again they nearly stop spiraling - just to get sucked up again. Get an A-wing, get an open harness and get back to training before doing xc in weather conditions you can‘t handle properly. Learn how to do big ears, learn how to spiral steep and learn how to judge weather, how to read clouds. Its no rocket science. But it is ridiculous to upload such behavior as a pilot with such smileys like it is a joke.

Ok what is the best technique to get down asap ? Stall the glider?
@Ty1608 ай бұрын
1) accel + big ears 2) deep spiral 3) B-stall 4) full stall (little extreme) 5) cut wing... wait... wait.. rescue parachute (true extreme) 😂
@DrAElemayo6 ай бұрын
Speed bar (with big ears if necessary) to the nearest edge of the cloud. Then find sinking air. This is why you always need to know what direction clear sky is in, and preferably instruments to be able to stay in that direction if you do enter the cloud. If there's a chance of cloud suck, get out of the thermal BEFORE you have less than a 30-45 degree angle between the edge of the cloud. Spiral dives and other non-directional descent techniques are going to take way too much effort. Especially spiral dives, you might black out if you stay in them too long. Which is definitely likely if the lift is more than 10 m/s.

Why do paragliders just randomly fall from the sky so often? If never seen this happening with skydiver - parachutes or base jump - parachutes
@2310Ole10 ай бұрын
because parachutes have a much higher wing loading and are primarily built to fly stable, unlike this paraglider, which is built for a better glide ratio

Alex, why didn't you spiral down? I mean proper life-or-death type spiral, with couple of loops around your brake handles, going down 25m/s, with glider completely horizontal, and the surrounding view turned into a zipping blur around you? Cos it seems you were taking things rather casually at the beginning, when you were at the base, and when maximum escape speed was needed. It could have easily gone the other way for you. Lucky dude ;)

If you've never done a nose down spiral the G forces are incredible and if you've not practised them pretty scarry!
@DrAElemayo6 ай бұрын
You don't need wraps to do a spiral dive... After a certain angle with the horizon you'll actually need less brakes than what you used to enter it.
