If this is at the mall, I went to the same one it's a really great show, but anyone could watch it from up stairs at the mall makes it not worth the money you spent to get in

Nice to see more show posts! I read that the average salary for a full-time hula dancer in Hawaii is less than $60k. I don't know how anyone in Hawaii can live on that. Should be way higher, they're a vital part of the economy - literally "essential workers".

You are absolutely right. Living in Hwaii is not cheap yet the minimum wage is lower than the mainland

@@AlohaAllAboutHawaii It's crazy and makes me so angry for the Hawaiian people, who have been so wronged by the US. I'm not anti-America, but if anyone deserves reparations, it's Hawaiians. I hope that one day Hawaii can become a self-governing territory (still in free-association with the US for obvious benefits) but able to make their own laws and reverse the housing crisis there by requiring foreign buyers to prove they have Polynesian heritage. The Faroe Islands, the Cook Islands, and Niue have done this with their respective nations - Denmark and New Zealand - and they're thriving. My heart breaks for the entertainers on the islands. I'm sure they love what they do and should be compensated better.

It's sad that the shows in Honolulu are geared towards satisfying the tourists' need to reduce Polynesian culture down to the tiki aisle at Party City, but it's a rat race, and the residents need to earn a living. I am sure these performers are very proud of their culture and work very hard at their craft, but they aren't being paid anywhere near what they should be for what they do - my understanding that a hula performer at the big hotels on O'ahu earn less than $40k a year - no one can live on that in Hawai'i. But I hear that on Kaua'i, there's a family business called Smith Family Tropical Adventures, I believe, and I understand their lu'au shows are much more authentic to Polynesian culture, and their performers are better paid. I hope that's the case, anyway. Their videos here on You Tube look amazing.
