If so many people knew, Why didn't anyone do anything? Why didn't anyone come out and expose him openly? Why is it only the BBC that always gets the blame?
@Man-From-Another-PlaceАй бұрын
Because Savile was litigious, and these comedians didn't have direct evidence of his wrongdoing.
@tcsl7764Ай бұрын
@@Man-From-Another-Place That doesnt wash..No way would he have sued because that would have opened up a whole can of worms. If everyone seemed to know, how did they know? They basically covsered up for him. No one had the integrity to stand up and be counted.

@@Man-From-Another-Place It is that simple. It's about having courage to simply do the right thing. I had a friend,I suspected their child was being sexually abused by a friend of their family. I didn't have concrete proof. I contacted social services and told them everything I knew.
@jonathanc7674Ай бұрын
There was always rumours about sexual misconduct. Since they couldn't just go and say he was because they wouldn't want a libel suit, this was the next best thing. Give attention to the rumours. The reason he was playing the eccentric was because it was exactly that. An act.

Should have added the Jonny Rotten audio - it was fabulous what he said about sadistic Saville and the BBC cover-ups. He said that it seemed everyone knew what the sadistic-necro did. When he pointed-out his behaviour, he was told, 'Oh, that's just Jimmy'.

Savile was in with people of power in all sorts of places, in all likelihood many would have been up to no good in one way or another themselves. Collectively they could protect each other, and collectively they could take someone down who threatened them by exposing them. The opposite is happening now where big media and big industry use their power to cancel, or try to, anyone who exposes their agenda, bias, or corruption.

Reminds me of growing up in the 00s and everyone would laugh about R Kelly peeing on a girl. Theres a Hollywood Undead song where Jeffery Star references it. No one took this stuff seriously it was just a pop cultural joke. Imagine if Michael Jackson had actually been found to have done something wrong. South park, Scary Movie, so many movies and shows would be in such bad taste now.

No, everyone did NOT know. Jokes like these are akin to jokes about Richard Gere and the gerbil. They were jokes ABOUT a rumour, rather than jokes about known truth. Rumours abounded and rumours are not usually taken seriously, and are not usually sufficient grounds for investigation or definitive action. Savile was adept at hiding in plain sight and keeping authorities away from the truth. You can't blame most of these people for not doing something about it - they had no evidence. They were just laughing at a weird and out-of-date figure of pop culture.
