Sony canceled pre-orders because some banks blocked the $1,099 charge for fraud protection. Sony initially requests payment, then refunds it to hold your pre order. Once the order is shipped out Sony will charge your Bank account again. If the bank blocked the charge, Sony canceled the order. There are 12,300 units globally, the UK had first dibs then North America was second. There were way less than 12,300 available during North Americas pre order date on September 26th

What you’re referencing here is called a pre-authorization. Basically what happens is they check to see if your card is valid by checking to see if you have purchase amount on your card. As well as checking to see your bank will allow a pitch from their site. Once you pass all the checks they’ll release the funds back to your card. They’ll charge your card and purchase amount once your order is ready to ship. So I advise people to make sure the funds are available at least a week before release date.

@@OshaneC92what I hate is that the website for the preorder is a different version from the regular one and it doesn’t have your payment information despite it being saved on the PlayStation direct website. I was at work that day and ready to pay for it and then it opened the checkout page and my card wasn’t there despite it being saved in their thing already… that was annoying.

I have tried to order with VPN and the order initially went through but it got cancelled later on due to a payment issue. I assume many tried to do the same in regions where it was not made available and subsequently had their orders cancelled.

But I do think a PlayStation Plus subscription would have mitigated some of this. Because then scalpers would have had to buy multiple subscriptions

If Sony has confirmed the order and you have received the email, the order cannot be cancelled. The email is simply a commercial agreement and you would just need to contact a lawyer and they will be forced to give you the console.
