Sorry to hear your story but with all due repect all discs if not used be it car or bike will gain a little surface rust Usually wiped down with a cloth and brake cleaner does the job and the bars though i agree you souldnt have to it on a new set off bars its after market not your bike thats rusting good vid hope its all gets sorted ride safe
@taffy2wheels577Ай бұрын
@Leonard-kd7uj Hi thanks for your comments. I am comparing to the other bikes I have owned like Yamaha, Suzuki, kawasaki and Honda. I have not had any surface rust issues at all on those bikes and my Harley-Davidson cost the most. The rust on the Harley-Davidson crash bars occurred when the powder coating came off . Harley need to up their quantities of their products and soon.

@taffy2wheels577 hi thanks for the reply I have a street bob had a Africa twin as well up to may when she was stolen when in for a MOT yes I agree the harley bolt on are not the best coatings out there my street bob is 10 years can only imagine how disappointing this is wit a new bike hope all works out you ride safe

when will you kids ever learn, that metal doesn't care about your money... no such thing as stainless steel every steel will rust eventually, especially mild steel used on discs.... you wanna rust free motorcycle... buy a kiddie plastic one

Harley Davidson should be putting down a zinc-based powder coat first and then finishing with the coloured top powder coat. Powder coated steel that is exposed to the elements will always suffer from water ingress. Without a zinc-based powder coat or even galvanising, the colour coat will eventually peel off due to corrosion occurring underneath it.
@taffy2wheels577Ай бұрын
@RichPober Hi thank you for the comments you are bang on. It's just not on paying top dollar for inferior parts .
@RichPoberАй бұрын
After the warranty runs out, you can keep on top of rust using: 1. Pure phosphoric acid (£30 for 5 litres) diluted down to 50% or 25% concentration, to kill rust and passivate exposed steel. It's the same as using Jenolite, but that is only 5% concentration with pink dye, and way more expensive. 2. Fertan Rust Converter (£27.50 for 1 litre) used neat, will kill rust and passivate exposed steel better than phosphoric acid / Jenolite. A coat of black chassis paint will seal everything, once the rust treatment has dried.

I was hoping this was about the Harley in the thumbnail. I would totally like a 20k Harley that LOOKED like a rust bucket. Not a 20k Harley that IS a rust bucket. I'm so sorry you're going through this. I pray for a quick and good resolution of this for you.

I’m still shocked at how bad that is. I wouldn’t be happy if this happened to a cheap £2000 bike in less than 12 months. But spending £20,000 on that. Very poor from HD.
@paulsilson2148Ай бұрын
That's not on is it now.They put minimal parts on some bikes, so you will pay for what you want. Love the sport glide, best bike they made in my opinion
@theodavies8754Ай бұрын
I don't think that's powder coat. Looks like 2 pack gloss that is too brittle to stand up to the vibration at the joint. It's going to happen again until they go back to powder coat. On my third Harley since 1988. A '99 TC88 FXDL. Got issues with the chrome on the casings but collected together new to replace this winter. Buy a 10k Harley and put another 10 into it over 100k miles.

USA rider, I bought my Sport Glide in 2018 - The bike no longer sells in the US, but can be special ordered. This bike should have replaced the Sportster for women, older guys and small guys who can’t handle the larger heavier bikes. The first thing you have to do is buy Moeta Saddlembag Guards for $150 and then store the saddlebags and cowling and ride with your tank 1/2 full (if you are not used to riding a bike that weighs 700lb). Doing all this you shave off unnecessary weight while learning to ride it. Then spend the money for a stage one & two upgrade that gets the 107 up to 114 engine specs on speed and torque. If you are a novice rider, Then for goodness sake, take it out to a parking lot and practice turns and start/stops. The truth is a monkey can ride a motorcycle in a straight line, but a true biker is not afraid to take curves or make upturns or sharp turns. The last thing you want is to have a 700 lb bike sitting on top of you, and engine and saddle bag guards will protect you and the Sport Glide

These are the best sounding bikes in my humble opinion: 1) The newest Triumph 765 RS Street Triple or the latest Yamaha MT 09 SP * I can't decide between these two* 2) The Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS 3) The Triumph Trident 660
@aluisious2 ай бұрын
I had a 2011 Street Triple R. It lasted 2k miles before it was a write off due to engine and suspension issues. Buy the Yamaha.
@paulhope34012 ай бұрын
The peakier and more track foccused 765RS makes for a better track bike while the torque of the MT09 SP makes for a better street bike. I don't track my bikes and so went for the MT09 SP and delighted with it. No regrets.. Haven't ridden the other two though.
@lateralus92442 ай бұрын
@@paulhope3401 I've briefly ridden both but spent a little less time on the MT-09 SP (the 2023 version). I've also ridden a Triumph Trident 660 quite a bit and the MT-09 SP seemed to me like a much more powerful and a much taller geared version of the Trident, in terms of power delivery. The Trident has lots of low rpm torque; the 765 was obviously faster than the Trident and very rev happy and quick but it didn't feel really torquey to me -- even though it has 12 more ft. lbs of torque. It was very easy to hit the rev-limiter on the 765 without intending to but the 765 is also geared even lower than the Trident in top gear -- 5500 rpms vs. 5000 rpms for the Trident at 65 mph. The 765 is very beautiful and the engine is buttery smooth; I loved almost everything about it! But I think you are right, the MT 09 would make a much better street bike -- even though it's kind of weird looking. The MT-09 also has an insanely better and smoother quick shifter; the 765 that I rode had a very clunky one that wasn't enjoyable to use at all.
