nice video, thank you. I think you can use all filters, Tiffen for example, and not just your own small rig filters, right? And what do you do with zoom lenses, for example the Laowa Nanomorph 28-55mm, which won't work either, or can the box only be attached using rods? Thanks again

Loved their first album, still listen to it regularly. Entertaining couple of videos for this song. I wonder how things turned out for these guys? They didn't make it big but they made good music and I hope they have enjoyed a life of satisfaction and adequate sufficiency

I have the tilta mini mattebox and had the mirage for a day. both had similar rod mount issues the mini had a single sided rod mount, which is ok till you need to move it. why move it well some lenses will move the front element and having it lose enough to move is not a good experience. So I bought the mirage which doesn't include the rod mount and is out of stock most places and then i discovered it uses a 3mm thread to attach to the matte box so only tilta's fits Tilta germany was willing to sell me one for about 60 euro and 23 postage. I'm not waiting 6 weeks for a rod clamp that costs me 2/3rds of the cost of the basic mirage set up. So i have ordered the smallrig 3556 which is essentally a stripped down version of the 3645. I've also ordered the neewer rod clamp which worked out about the same cost as the postage for the tilta version. There are options when it comes to motorising an ND filter one of the simplist is to put a gear band on one half, if thats too thin well a metal lens hood can be a good mod too. Smallrigs VND kit for its mattebox runs about 165 euro , You also can use screw on filters too if you need something like an ir cut filter. using the rodclamp fixed and the lens clamp lose you can operate a regular nd filter by hand or motor and just let the lens adapter rotate in the mattebox housing. You can't help thinking sometimes that Tilta releases flawed products with the deliberate intention of up selling you to the next model up.

It truly made me sad to learn of David Lindley’s passing. I had always hoped to see him one more time…his shows at the Kessler in south Dallas were amazing…and he would then hang around and talk…such a class act, one of a kind musician, and a great piece of Americana…RIP my friend.

Now you have used this for 10 months or so are there any updates or learnings? Just liked and subscribed. I'm considering buying one too but also looking at Tilta's equiv. I like the SmallRig brand and build quality, so in absence of good reasons either way I'm inclined to go SmallRig. A few queries that you might know after using. 1) How even is the ND effect (ie and X pattern) and is it good/consistent across 8 stops? 2) Is there any discernible colour shift? 3) How easy, or otherwise, is it to use with zoom lenses where the front element moves forward with zoom (I'm wishing t use with primes and a 24-70mm Sony GM mk ii lens - front moves)? 4) for (3) zoom lenses I'm guessing you can't use with the front rail support? But probably OK with my 70-200 which has internal adjustment (no front element movement). 5) Any subsequent learning if wishing to add a 'drop-in' filter (eg black mist) as well as run the VND (presumably a second add-on filter tray module)? 6) Any belated views SmallRig vs Tilta Mirage? Thanks if you or anyone else can answer any of my product queries.

Seems there are two versions of the smallrig matte box. One is 95mm second one is 114mm. And to remove VND smoothly you need 2 frames (at least what I've seen in other YT reviews). I wonder how bad VND in smallrig is ... cause Tilta one is quite bad :D. Got strong color cast and cross pattern starts quite fast.

My friends and I drove 75 miles to see them in Chapel Hill, NC around 1996 or so. They were shocked and hung out with us in the parking lot after the show and played some acoustic versions of songs. Great memory and super nice guys.

I met them when I was in school at Iowa State. Mike's aunts lived in town and they stopped in and played a free show. We packed the place and they immediately booked another show on their way back through. Then I graduated and moved to Reno, NV. The furthest west they were going to come was Steamboat Springs, CO. So I drove it. It was like 16 or 17 hours or something crazy. Have been friends with Mike ever since.

I got the Smallrig and after I took out the VND circular component and re-oriented it, it turns very very smoothly. At first I didn’t have it in place all the way and turning was Indeed stiff. It after I re-seated it correctly it works extremely well and smooth.
