Amazing! I’m working this up on guitar and bass right now. One of my favorites since it came out. Would you considering sharing the drum tracks so I could play to that for my cover? Playing to a click or drum machine is not very inspiring. Thanks!

Unfortunately, an acoustic kick drum would not sound like 909.

I think in a sense iconic drum machines like the 808 are iconic precisely _because_ they sound so bad! Like they DON’T sound anything like real acoustic drums but their sound is so cool and distinct it became its own thing. Similar are the mellotron and optigan keyboards: they’re awesome _because_ they’re so lo-fi and vibey; they sound nothing like the acoustic instruments* they’re supposed to be replicating and that’s great. *TBF, the flute and cello settings on the mellotron sound identical to their counterparts (they were in fact actual tape recordings of these instruments) but the iconic mellotron sound is the strings setting because they’re so washed-out and pitchy sounding.

I like to play DnB/Breakbeat type stuff on drums sometimes and I always found it ironic that I'm purposefully trying to sound "artificial" even though the original drum samples were from actual drummers playing regular drums. This is like taking that even further.

I was just thumping on a 24x14 yesterday and I was blown away good it sounded on the low end! The batter head need to be tuned up a bit higher to get the shell engaged and how the drum sound full with a tasty tone. Too loose and it’s all attack. No body. They have the batter head tuned to where it feels and sounds good. It was at an “F”-87hz

Ah! The CR-78 would be fun to recreate. Probably a bit more difficult for the crashes and hats...BTW it's cool you named that machine, I'm using its samples with my kids (I'm a middle school music professor), we're playing "Another day in paradise" and you can hear that CR-78 conga/tom in the verses❤️
