I'm sorry, but that is not how a Kata should look like. Full stop. Kata means form. Kata is to perfect your form/technic for applications in kumite/defence. And this was show not Kata full stop. Yes I was a karateka. JKA, Shotokan international, Funakoshi. 1984-1998. And that is not how you perform a Kata. Front stance, your front knee should align with your big toe. The show looked excellent for sure, but it's not Kata.

I don't know enough about the art to find fault with either of them. They are both flawless to my eyes. Maybe Rika Usami's relatively petite physique enables more fluid motion, and she has the skill to maximize the advantage of that gift.

It is absolutely impossible to combine these two performances! Torres is very tense in the shoulders, his timing is not right in many places. Although Kiyuna also uses a lot of athletics, but it does not prevent kata from remaining kata. Torres is a good athlete and that's all, Kiyuna is already a great karateka. That's the difference.
