I'd advise you look at different labs at UW and read papers published by those labs to see if their research is something you'd be interested in. Then email the PIs to see if they are accepting undergraduates in the fall. A good lab will teach you what you need to know to do research with them. hello! my apologies for the delayed response. my go to advice for starting research is to read papers on topics that interest you and then cold email the labs you want to join. UW is certainly huge and that can seem daunting when looking for opportunities but that also means there are a lot of different labs you can look into! as for training, I found having some science education allowed me the foundation I needed to understand my research. that being said, the lab you join will train you. hope this helps!

at UW the curriculum, coursework, and other student resources for biochem majors are quite excellent as long as you have the initiative to utilize what is available. what you get out of the program really depends on how much effort you're willing to put in. that being said, I will not sugar coat, it is a very rigorous degree. the chem department will definitely challenge you to excel as for the biochem series itself, I quite enjoyed it. I knew I would enjoy biochemistry, hence I picked the major. I love case-based learning where we incorporated what we knew at the molecular level in the context of a patient
