I was born in Hawaii. My dad and grandfather were police officers. I learned Kajukenbo from George Iverson starting in the 70s.

It says that Filipinos never considered our ways a martial art. It seems that our forefathers never intended to be in anyway of fight but is willing to fight to survive. I love that principle. Simple yet effective. Salute to ancient Filipino Cultural Fighting Art 🇵🇭🔥💖

Bruce was cocky, and offended a lot of people, the people got back at BL by referring to his mix background to get back at him.

Guro Inosanto is the greatest all time Filipino kali sifu, he comes from a time when the birth of martial arts was progressively revealing itself.

There is so much to love about this episode... but I will leave politics aside. I have to agree with Tuhon (*note: I would never dream about disagreeing with Tuhon Philip) regarding black belts and redacting names once someone has been promoted to a specific rank. And while there are some truths regarding young black belts (under 16 years old) and the concept of "use it or lose it" with regards to martial arts ability and skill, I think there are strong exceptions to the rule. I was a young Taekwondo Black Belt, and became a Junior Instructor at a very young age. I took a 14-year break from Taekwondo and did other things. I returned to my Taekwondo School over 2 years ago and was able to get back into teaching, and saw that the majority of my skills didn't die (I just can't do the crazy aerial jump spinning routines any longer due to age and knee/back issues.) Hindsight being 20/20, I realize that while I may not have been physically strong or mature enough as a teenager for the responsibility of being a black belt, I was intelligent enough and had the ability to transfer the knowledge that was shared with me. But I digress... Thank you Tuhon for all that you do for every system that you share with the world. It is always such a gift to have time with you, and also to be physically educated by you! And Ryan, thank you for your gift of the Tuhon and Son series! Always a treat to hear what you fine gentlemen have to say! With respect, Vincent Shin Kali USA

I remember noticing the same thing in Japan. I saw about 2 chubby people in my entire 2 weeks there in Tokyo, where you see thousands of people every day. The only really fat people I saw were Sumo wrestlers.

I had to laugh so many times throughout this interview, it brought back so many memories of Guro Dan back when he opened the Torrance Academy, I was one of the only girls in class back then and I would ask questions and those long answers and at the time I felt so lost but Guro Dan's brain was just spinning a hundred miles a minute, he was awesome then too, I love Guro Dan as a teacher and as a human being and I have missed him for many years, he mentioned me, not by name but by situation, in his first book and I was truly honored. I hold Guro Dan right up there with John LaCosta, both brilliant martial artist but more so wonderful honorable men. I was blessed to be with Guro Dan back in those discovery days of all the old Filipino Masters, I was already in love with Jeet Kune Do and Bruce Lee so everything else was just more magic.

Phil, I am enjoying listening to your talk with your son. I am not sure you will remember me. I was first a student of Kato's at which you, Roy Buchanan and I believe Chris Klouvatos were instructing. Then I was a student of Roy's at a Y and then I transferred to yours and Chris's school on St. Catherine sometime in the early to mid 1980s. I did a lot of sparing there on Saturdays, open Saturdays I think it was called at which students of other styles were invited to join the Kajukenbo students in full contact sparring. A couple of times, I had the pleasure of sparring with you. Possibly my deviated septum was a result of that. I once made the mistake of dropping you in two different rounds, with straight rights (my background was boxing). For that I crawled off of the dojo floor. One of my fondest momentos is of the group photo of the first seminar held in Montreal by Professor Emperado. A day or two before the seminar Professor Emperado was kind enough to kick me, in the horse stance position, across the floor. Apparently I was doing it right. I will be in Montreal in the late spring and I hope to make my way to you school to say hello. Richard White

Odenva clearly won the first round and third. Second round was iffy. The other guy landed more groin shots then he did power shots. Odenva had a few successful throws as well, even a spinning back kick to the head! This was a clear robbery, Quebec judges have a reputation for being biased for French fighters.
