One of the oldest national anthems of the world, the lyrics like spoken by William of Orange (Willem van Orange - Wilhelmus) during the 80 year war with Spain. Willem or Wilhelm was of German origin. It is a song of resistance against the Spanish tiranny. There are 15 verses, the first letters of these versus forming the name Willem van Nassov (Willem was the count of Nassau-Dillenburg, he inherited the title "Prince of Orange" in 1544. Orange is the national colour of The Netherlands). The first and the sixth verse are sung the most.

6.6 billions dollar Indonesia pay Dutch War Debt for Indonesia got independence acknowledgment at Round Table Conferences (Konferensi Meja Bundar) in Den Haag on 27 December 1949. Its Disgusting, and Kingdom of the Nedherlands has full Indonesia independence acknowledgment on 2020 after King Willem Alexander visit Indonesia with Queen Maxima.Can this be considered a politics of reciprocity? TOTALLY NO. Have you confiscated Indonesia's wealth and killed millions of people and are still being asked to pay debts for recognition of Indonesia's sovereignty? The Netherlands is truly disgusting. Return all the artifacts, diamonds and gold that you plundered from the kingdoms in Indonesia that you plundered, and return the 6.6 billion dollars to Indonesia.

The first time in centuries or even millennia that the people took power. Liberty, Equality, Fraternity. Oath engraved on all the pediments of public buildings in France. Oath that brought this motto to all continents. La première fois depuis des siècles voir des millénaire que le peuple prenait le pouvoir. Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité. Serment gravé à tous les frontons des édifices public de France. Serment qui apporta cette devise sur tous les continents. Merci la France.

@@OrangeMapleLeaf At the time of writing the song, neither Germany nor the Netherlands existed as a country. So I think the interpretation that Duitsch was meant as "continental germanic speaking" was the right one. But of course, Nassau-Dillenburg is very much in modern day Germany, so in that respect he was German. William of Orange spoke many languages, but he never mastered Dutch. Peculiar fact.

Wilhelmus van Nassouwe ben ick van Duytschen bloet...(I, William of Nassau, am of German blood). Nassau is located in Germany.
@RoaringBas
@RoaringBas Жыл бұрын
Not in 1570. Germany first became a sovereign state in 1871. The County Nassau was part of the Holy Roman Empire in that time. The word "Duytschen" means in Middle Dutch "van ons volk (of our people)" or "van de Nederlanden (of the Netherlands). The translation of the phrase "Ben ick van Duytschen bloet" in "Am I of Dutch Blood" is perfectly correct. The phrase has absolutely nothing to do with a supposed Nationality of Wilhelm of Orange.
@dantedante839
@dantedante839 Жыл бұрын
@@RoaringBas It does have to do with a nationality. All Germans were known as "Dutch" in English. "Duytschen" or any other form of the same word (modern Deutsch) means all the same. You should read a bit about the history of the Netherlands.

the german blood part refers to the german decent of William of Orange, the national leader of the Netherlands, the part of Philip of Spain refers to the immense respect William of Orange had for the Spanish King. As soon as Philip died, the Dutch started to become discontent with the Spanish rule. Number 1 reason for the Dutch Independe war, was the religious intolarence the new spanish king had for protestant people

Ah! Thank you...danke! World history taught in schools often doesn't go deep enough for total understanding. I appreciate the time you took to explain. @RoaringBas
@RoaringBas Жыл бұрын
@@gamekrijger1792The phrase "Ben ick van Duytschen bloet" doesn't have any reference with a German decent of Wilhelm of Orange. Germany didn't exist as such around 1570 when the Anthem was written. The phrase means that Wilhelm does see himself as one with the population of the lower countries (the Netherlands) in which the old form of Dutch (Diets) was spoken. Nassau where Wilhelm of Orange was born was part of the Holy Roman Empire. Germany first becomes an independent state in 1871 and it is highly unlikely that the writer of the Anthem would have mentioned the decent of Wilhelm of Orange as being German 300 years before we even speak about such state. Further was the title "Prince of Orange" inherited via René de Châlon of the sovereign Princedom of Orange in the south east of France.
@RoaringBas

@@vespereauroraeActually, we can date the Anthem to be written around 1570 due to the historical facts that are mentioned in the Anthem or the ones that are not mentioned.
