Was anyone else's first experience with this song in a 9/11 documentary that your middle school teacher showed in front of the class? Scared the absolute hell out of me. They even made the "drop" of the song match with the towers falling.

As a completely healthy and clean addict I remember watching this movie when I was dabbling with Vicodin and my soul knew something because I ended up a IV opioid addict and destroyed much of my earlier life but the truth? I am sooooo grateful for the experience as in the end it freed me. This movie I can’t watch because it’s soooo accurate on so many levels. This music is beautiful even though it’s dark. ❤😊 Healing is possible. Don’t give up, go inward and find the way.

My fave intense movie is The Deer Hunter, which also has an amazing theme song(Cavatina). This is my 2nd fave movie & theme song. To me, a movie is a masterpiece when you experience so many emotions & are able to think/ feel differently than you did before seeing the movie.

This is beautiful and brilliant, but I have to say that I also appreciate the slightly different rendition in the movie where the Earthlings have an elongated rest between playing "the five notes", as if waiting for a response. It gives the music more of a conversational quality At the start, the Earthlings are persistently saying the same thing over and over regardless of what the mothership plays. That makes it cinematically powerful when the mothership's tuba interrupts to blat out the final two notes. I imagine the script goes something like this Earthlings: "Hello" Mothership: "Oh, you speak our language! What is your name?" Earthlings: "Hello" Mothership: "What a charmingly absurd name. And what do you call this planet?" Earthlings: "Hello" Mothership: ... Earthlings: "Hel--" Mothership: "-LO! Please stop repeating 'Hello' and we will teach you something."
