The heroic Vietnamese people have allowed you back, and built a growing and thriving country. In retrospect, this war was fundamentally wrong and immoral.

Baby boomers were not a very tough group of boys. If the war in Vietnam had only waited one more generation we'd won. 😊

Bruce doesn't mention "why" he is pretty focused on SOG. And why he has a SOG private Facebook site for SOG vets and their friends and families. His dad was a legit member of MACVSOG. These videos and facebook presentations, and even the business he runs are all his way of honoring his dad. Well done, Bruce.

Just purchased your book Mr. Crump. I'm looking forward to getting to know you. I've heard mention, in high esteem, of some of Mr. Woodward's combat exploits, and as soon as I heard his name I hit the button on buying the book. I'm very interested in getting to know more about the "Pink Panthers". Are there any books, other than yours, that you would recommend?
@geraldrbaron7723Ай бұрын
Hello Jedidiah, I'm the author of Terry's book. There are a growing number of books about the Huey pilots, both slick and gunships, but the only other book that I am aware of specific to the Pink Panthers is an outstanding book by Colonel (Ret) William Reeder. Called Through the Valley: My Captivity in Vietnam, it details his harrowing time after he was shot down flying for the Panthers. Sadly, his co-pilot was killed, the last of the Panthers to be killed in action. Bill was severely injured including with a broken back, but was made to march under grueling conditions all the way from Cambodia to the Hanoi Hilton. It's a great book. Bill has also written two other Vietnam books which are on my must read list.
@jedidiahcook2548Ай бұрын
@@geraldrbaron7723 Yes sir! I saw Bill Reeder on the Jocko Podcast twice. I purchased his book Extraordinary Valor: The Fight for Charlie Hill in Vietnam. I will definitely read the one you referred to. How would one go about acquiring your must read list?

Bruce is not just a MACVSOG historian. His dad was in SOG, and in Bruce's childhood, that sparked his connection. Bruce also started a SOG-only Facebook group that became a place for old time Soggers to tell their stories and find old friends. I never had the connection that Bruce had. So, I can't honestly imagine how he felt when he walked in his dad's footsteps.

How do i find a list of SOG members? I've google and seem to find the KIA, MIA, but not a list of all. I know my brother was in Laos and Cambodia and Pleiku, 5th SF. GB 65-67, SE Asia, 9-66/9-67 I still remember his service number. Recently he told me i might be 1 number off, but was impressed ❤️🤗 He turned 78 this week. Memory challenges. His wife of 55 years this November says the only person he speaks to about his 'tour' to Asia is me. 1 year ago i finally asked him, were you a part or associated with MAC v SOG? He was so surprised, and asked, how did you know? Our parents were Navy WW2, (mim built ships in Providence) I'm the mom and mother in law to 3 US Marines. Thank you!

I’d love to hear his story. All of the SOG interviews I’ve seen are from guys in country 68-71. It would be interesting to hear the experience of someone in the earlier days. Perhaps get him in touch with John Stryker Myer; would be a hell of a story if he is open to it
