I am learning things about WC from these videos, but these are very poor tutorials. They skim through topics at the very highest level, don't actually show you most of the steps required to complete the tasks described. They do not talk about the concepts/workflow required to actually understand how to accomplish your own goals. Unlike the advertisements, WC is NOT a zero learning curve application. Like all applications that use complex mathematical formulas to accomplish the final result, they are very difficult to learn, because as a non-math person, none of the terms really mean much to me. All options need to be tried to get a "sense" of what will happen, and there are a lot of complex interactions between different layers. While some of the concepts related to handling these layers are mentioned in the video. The new user is left to stumble and flounder along with no real referenced to what most of the buttons do, and very important concepts simply skimmed over in the most casual of ways. In future video attempts, please explain the editing workflow concepts to achieve different kinds of goals. Show the steps taken to create the effects of the screen, don't just say "look I'm mousing over this thing with this brush selected, it does these neat things and is AWESOME".

Man, this whole video series is rather disappointing. And looks to be more of a cash grab than an actual official guide to using WC2024. The person making the video tells us that he has created a great document for understanding the software, software which we have already payed good money for for by the way. But in order to access the documents information we must join his PATREON $$$. Also, Livestream 1 was the only version that was really helpful with information usable for us now and actually free. And even it was pretty sloppy. Livestream 2 was disjointed and poorly thought out with little information. Livestream 3 was to sell DASH to us $$$. This Livestream#4 takes place using a version of World Creator 2024.3 which isn't even available yet to use. So there is no way to follow along. At 18 minutes in he tries to show us a new feature and it crashes. Once again the presentation is just really unprofessional. I assumed that because this KZbin channel is linked on the Discord for WC that it would provide users with real useful material. But instead I feel like I am being sold snake oil that may or may not work but I still have to pay for in advance. Please, whatever your name is, get your act together. Or if not then at least put a disclaimer at the beginning of your videos that confesses that you are just winging it and trying to make a quick buck $$$ off of WC2024 users hungry for true documentation. Instead what we get is, "Hey there, I made this landscape in no time at all before this video started. Trust me. By the way PATREON, blah blah blah. Look I got a preview version that you can't use, watch me play with it. In answer to all the good questions posed, the coders of WC are working on that for the FUTURE. But for the time being sign up for all the PATREONS and PLUGINS which need you to pay for monthly $$$." Sad... 👽

Okay, so I enjoyed Livestream#1 even with the hickups along the way. I found it quite informative for me as a novice to WC and UE5. But #2 becomes useless around 55 minutes in. He crashes his UE5 project and then restarts with a save from the night before. But there is simply no way for me to follow along with this disjointed approach. The video is 4 hours long, I quit after hour 1. Maybe, instead of doing a livestream with us along to wait for him to figure out what he is doing, he could edit a coherent version that doesn't have so much wasted time. And actually have a process which others can follow. I wonder if the DASH showcase was as poorly portrayed? Oh well, I already paid for WC 2024. I guess it was too much to hope that my software would come with some decent video tutorials. :(

Still no tessellation level settings? Ideally the usefulness of using displacement maps on low poly terrain with distance based tessellation allows detail from the maps to pop out. Currently at close range everything is flat. I understand we could increase the resolution of the terrain so the displacement maps can bring out photo scan quality materials but at a price of slower performance.
@GameArtsCafe3 ай бұрын
So I made a mistake when I added my textures/mats make sure your have "Show Biomes" toggled off, to me it's a material/texture on/off button and that can help you see how the biomes transition into each other better. Currently there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust displacement map levels in texture mode and tessellation itself or it just isn't mentioned here - which means it's almost completely useless here until exported to a DCC program that utilizes displacement + tessellation. unless you know some way we can manipulate the height map to see photo-scanned materials pop out?

Question: Doesnt the splatmap workflow only make sense if you use weight blended layer as the way the splatmaps get rendered already removes information from underlying layers? Thats how I understood how it works. If you import a set of, lets say 5 splatmaps, you can see that where layer 1 is white/grey, layer 0 is black/grey meaning that by adding all 5 layers together, you basically get 1 ( full white). Using non weight blend only makes sense if every layer exported scales from 0-1 in value, which it doesn't when exporting splatmaps based on my test. Also, wight blend is potentially cheaper since it doesn't require all layers to always be rendered on every component based on their weight.
@51Daedalus4 ай бұрын
Actually....I think this only works this way if you export them into color channels instead of individual textures XD Also, the subtractive layers are not needed when using weight blended layers this way.
@DesignwithTP3 ай бұрын
Yes, if you use weightblended layers, it does indeed remove any underlying layer information...making it, essentially, slightly cheaper I think. However, I think there are more benefits in my experience to use non-weightblended layers, i.e. height blended layers, as it is non-destructive and allows you to utilize the height information when blending between layers a bit more smooth. It's a pro/con decision to make but in general, I always try to make what I do non-destructive. Of course, you can always convert a layer from non-weightblended to weightblended or visa-versa if you choose to at any time in the layerblendinfo that's created.

I noticed the landscape sizing might be a glitch of some sort with 5.3? It took FOREVER to delete the components when I imported a heightmap at the default 1k with WC. But when I changed the resolution to 1017x1017, the component size was MUCH more reasonable.

I've been using World Creator for 2 days - Day 1 was going through TP's introductory course for WC, and Day 2 was walking through this livestream and building out the same project - fantastic, I've learned so much, thanks!! What a great basis for a WC to UE workflow :) For anyone else following along, from 3h15m in when the function nodes won't accept input, the correct node type to choose on the Master Material is TextureObjectParameter; this will allow you to feed your textures to the Texture2D inputs within the Material Function.
