Great review. Absolutely in love with my trusty S5 ... Please what powerbank could you recommend besides your brand?

Find these video's interesting. As the KZbinr talks about film making yet thier video's is just them talking to the camera in 90% of video's they post. Would assume film makers make short films and show that instead of just talking to the camera

I sold my Lumix s5II, basically, the normal profiles were unusable, and the overall image (even in V-log was wayyy oversharp). Also, it lacks detail, its like they put a strong denoiser, and even with noise reduction on zero, it kills the detail. And by the way, it has a problem with the sound, if you use it an external microphone, the camera produces a digital noise impossible to fix in post. Then skin tones...are bad, very bad. And its a pity, because all the rest is great. Amazing autofocus, easy menu, lots of options for configuring the camera, great handling

My thoughs exactly. In 4K, most profiles are unusables. Like if the 4K was only a sort of 1080P upscaled and sharpened. But even in 6K or in V-log the image is worse than the S5, and oddly the IBIS is worse than when using 4K. The new S9 will likely have the same video quality ... So I currently search to switch from Panasonic, but it is not easy, my A7IV has better video quality in good light, but becomes as bas as the S5II in low light with a lot of denoising, and of course no way to disable it. I don't speak about the IBIS, it is better to disable it. Have you experienced some other "recent" cameras ? I really want the same video quality than the S5 but with good AF.

Great video. It looks like the soft fx3 is great if you wanted to recreate those cheesy 70s movies, where they went a but crazy with the vaseline.

I agree, the S5 is fantastic, it has better image quality than the S5II (but worse IBIS and AF). However it's not because of the PDAF, because the external BRAW has excellent image quality. And no you can't really improve the internal video quality because the very bad sharpening really impact the fine details, the sharpening used on the S5II is much worse than regular sharpening of the S5 or the sharpening we use in Lightroom.

I had the S5 and sold it and got an A7Siii then sold that and got the BMPCC6K Pro. I then sold that and got an S5 ii and now I'm going to get another S5 as an A cam.

The forced sharpness (you can't chose to turn it all off anymore) on the new mark II is also what gives more noise. It's a definite step down unless afflicted by the epidemic of autofocus addiction.

So true. I almost never use the S5II because of this. The sharpening is very bad and doesn't look like regular sharpening. The standard profiles are also much worse than on the S5. Too much weird sharpening and details filtering.

I bought Soft FX 3 for this video because i loved the look. I have a Nikon D3300 with a ⌀52mm lens and the effect is barely there, barely noticeable, I tried to do some lighting like in this video but it just looks almost the same as NO filter. What could be happening?

*This is an English comment using a translator, so it may not be conveyed accurately*What I know is that when light passes through the blue line of the filter, it is scattered in the vertical direction of the line, creating a flare effect. Therefore, to achieve a horizontal flare effect, the filter's stripes must be placed vertically.

A couple of, hopefully, useful remarks @FilterBoy 1) I love your channel and I wish you did more of these videos! I watch these throughoutfuly 2) I think that If Smoque 3 comes off too strong when compared to Smoque 2, then combination of Smoque 2 and Smoque 1 would work out better OR combination of Smoque 2 and some weaker instance of BPM like 1/4 to up it a little bit 3) If you still find Tiffen hardly available in Germany, there's a well supplied store in Poland named photo4b which has plenty of their products as well as different brands.

In which movie, shot on film, have you seen the greenery turning to yellow?
@filterboy8750
@filterboy8750 11 ай бұрын
I don't know, lots of movies have a yellow tint to them. Or just look at any "gritty" Mexico scene from movies. In my example it's also just the leaves that are blasted by the sun which are naturally turning quite yellow. The rest still looks pretty green to me 🤷🏻‍♂

The effect of the filter changes based on the type of lighting, length of the lens, and size of the sensor. He's using a camera with a very small sensor so, all else being equal, the effect will be stronger with his camera.

Here's a trick: Separate you filter from your lens by some mm. You can use an equal step up filter for this (like a 77mm-77mm adapter ring). It will often remove the reflections you mention.

TIFFEN Describes the: The Soft FX filters as attending to the reduction of RESOLUTION & CONTRAST (Reduction in resolution to assist with softening wrinkles and blemishes). The Black Pro Mist as attending to diffusing BLACK HALATION (Increase in halation, blooming, or spreading of illumination around highlights).

Yeah, I have one of these under a different brand name. Super cheap with a completely overpowering effect. Might be useful for a dream sequence or maybe a flashback in time in a film or something. But for general use it is quite unusable. It's so strong it makes it hard to get focus without detaching the filter from the lens. I also have a slightly more expensive one from Japanese manufacturer Marumi called Soft Fantasy that is similar only a bit more subtle and usable. At least Marumi's filter warns you in the naming of the filter what it's actually meant for, haha.
