😮😮 1:43 1:44 I first saw 2101 & and a sister (either 2100 or 2102) at a now-gone scrap yard in Hawkins Point (Baltimore) off Chemical Rd. I think year was 1973 or 74. The two had been there for some time. They had their connecting rods laying horizontal on the tenders. When I next saw 2101, it had been moved to the now-gone B&O Riverside Yard in 1975 for its restoration to operating condition. It was placed nose-in the bay with the tender being restored elsewhere. I volunteered for several weeks doing things that were assigned to me. I helped with torquing stay bolts, cleaning small parts, working in the smoke box, and more. She looked very different with all the sheet metal and insulation removed. Interestingly, the nose-in position meant that a hole needed to be opened in the brick wall to facilitate both the removal of the old boiler tubes and the subsequent installation of the new boiler tubes. When the connecting rods on the right side were being reinstalled, a crack was discovered. I reminded them that the other loco at the scap yard might have a possible rod candidate. I am not sure if it was used. It was a wonderful experience from 50 years ago. I will look for any images I might still have.

I am very happy I stumbled accross this video last night. I have plans to build an HO scale tribute to the American Freedom Train in my new Route 66 Spirit of America Museum in Stroud, OK... saw a new documentary on the AFT a few months ago that sparked my interest. Somehow even though I love trains I missed the news of the train's existence in 1976. That was the year I graduated from college, and I must have been distracted by trying to figure out how to be an adult out in the world. But this great locomotive deserves all the TLC its about to get. It's an important part of American history now itself. I see there's a link here for donating to its cosmetic restoration. That's where I'll go next. And if an of you ever take a Route 66 road trip, I hope you'll look me up!

Something modern being used to nudge something old? Works for both of our recent presidents now that I think about it. But yes, we’re freer than some countries but giants corporations and mass media control a LOT of what is fed to our eyeballs and ears. Something many coasttocoastam guests talk about.
