People saying "Hades clone" as a bad thing. I'm more like that's a good thing. How can different developers work with the hades formula? Idk but I'ma find out!

Would be interested in hearing your thoughts on breachway. I enjoyed the demo but I’m hesitant about buying it in early access yet

It looks interesting, but I've honestly also been waiting for it to leave EA before grabbing it.

Just wanted to thank you for continuing to post reviews for my favorite genre! Hoping that this can help fund a game or two for you to enjoy in 2025 🙂 I’d recommend checking out Shogun Showdown, which was my favorite roguelike of 2024 (very similar to Into The Breach, which is my favorite game) 🙂 P.S. I tried posting a comment and tip last week but it never showed up 🤷🏼♂️ KZbin support still hasn’t gotten back to me about it (shockingly haha), but hopefully it got to you and this is just extra 😂
@InsertReviews4 күн бұрын
Thank you so much! Greatly appreciate your support. I'll use it to finish grabbing a couple games in the steam sale that I was going back and forth on. I grabbed Shogun Showdown earlier this year, but need to actually boot it up haha. I see it mentioned a lot in people's 2024 favorites/lists, so near the top of my list for 2025. And I just checked, and looks like I got one on the 18th (which I'm assuming was you)! I can't actually see the comment itself anywhere though for some reason (and classic support lol).

Cool video; I'm enjoying it! However, there are no traditional roguelikes in your list! Which would be games like Caves of Qud, Cogmind, Brogue, Dwarf Fortress, Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead, etc…

Excellent reviews! Particularly agree with Astral Ascent. I was really excited to play it in 1.0 but was disappointed by how floaty and weightless it felt and ultimately didn't continue playing after beating the first 3 run levels (I forgot how they are called but you had to beat it like 7 times IIRC). I plan to revisit it after they release the updates they announced for next year, or maybe earlier, to see if I like it better this time around.

Have you played any roguelike/lites that have a massive skill tree akin to something like path of exile?
@InsertReviews6 күн бұрын
For within run builds or between run progression? I haven't seen anything like that within runs, partly because runs aren't really long enough to get that kind of scale. I would bet that some traditional roguelikes or some survivor-like/bullet heaven games might be the best bet for finding something like that. Progression wise, the closest might be like rogue legacy 2? Some games like children of morta have much smaller trees. Nothing quite the same though.

I really miss action roguelike. You know the ones not too serious with very various and overpowered build. Games like isaac, crypt, neon abyss, gungeon... Yes we had hades or astral ascent. I like this games but they are a bit too serious for me.

Megaloot just got a pretty big update that has changed a lot of how runs playout and builds progress. Its pretty interesting.
@tristanwegner12 күн бұрын
gatekeeper is top down but not isometric, as can be seen when you move, as the perspective of object changes (you can see more of the left or right of the object). This does not happen in isometric perspective.
@InsertReviews11 күн бұрын
Oh interesting. I always thought of isometric as viewing the area from any angle and top down as literally fully looking down on things. But that different makes sense!

Great list, sometimes from the commentary It seemed like you didn't enjoy most of them that much 😅 Good you noticed at the end that you played games that were updated in the meanwhile. For example, The Rogue Prince of Persia was definitely changed in the last updates, not only for the art style but for build variety, meta progression and so on. And new updates are already in the roadmap for 2025. Anyway, great video, you gave me some good references for the future!
@InsertReviews12 күн бұрын
That's fair lol. I try to add some pros and cons for each game even if I enjoy them so people why they might or might not like them, but this year as had some big let downs for me (Vertical Kingdom, Wild Bastards, and GTTOD for example). Still a great year as a whole for the ones that I loved! And been planning to return to The Rogue Prince of Persia at full release, so good to see they have it planned out well.
@IndieGamingRoguelikes12 күн бұрын
@InsertReviews absolutely! It's meaningless say that everything is good if it's not, I prefer to hear some critiques because I give more value to positive points! Especially considering how many games are out there, it's better to know the downsides to do a Better choice. Yeah Evil Empire Is doing an amazing job with this game, I hope sales can have a boost next year because they deserve It. Let's see! 💪 Congrats again for your great work on this

Rogue Prince's parkour mechanic threw me off so badly when I first played it that I almost returned it, but I'm glad I stuck with it. Warm Snow and Hades II are both scratching that Hades itch, even if H2 is the obvious winner there.
@VanceVibes14 күн бұрын
Too many card games and turn-based games lol I still can’t get into those genres and am looking for a good gateway game. Any recommendations? I tried Darkest Dungeon and Monster Train but ended up dropping both after about an hour each.
@brown326114 күн бұрын
slay the spire is the answer.
@InsertReviews14 күн бұрын
I think Slay the Spire, Balatro, and Monster Train are the best roguelite card game starting points generally, so I would try those other two. For turn-based roguelite that aren't card games, Inkbound is probably my favorite off the top of my head though admittedly most turn-based roguelites I play tend to be card games or deckbuilders more broadly. Ultimately depends what you're looking for, but some people just never click with certain genres like me and survivor-likes lol. Darkest Dungeon is also hit or miss for people in my experience.
@Chris3s13 күн бұрын
I would also recommend slice & dice (a lot of customization), the last spell (tactics), gordian quest (more RPG leaning), or cobalt core (battlefield movement), depending on what you like in a game
