What a wonderful and caring video. To make such a video and truly share from an authentic place of love is the mark of a winner. I"m over twice your age, and still found meaning in those words. The truth is, everything is ultimately an experiment, and there's never a place we get to, where we're all "set." I agree there's really no "failure" except when we view our actions through the lens of those outside of ourselves and our unique paths. Thank you for sharing and adding encouragement to those that get to see this. I'm not sure how I happened upon this video, and glad I did.

Hello Daniel. I agree with many of your comments regarding AI Note Taking Apps and Mem is no exception. The thing that really appeals to me with Mem is that I don't really need to do too much Tagging and/or Back Linking (according to the information I have gathered). I really like the idea of dumping information into Mem and surfacing it as needed. I have tried MANY note taking Apps and the biggest overhead has been the need to Tag, Back Link, Reference etc. I'm not lazy, it's just too much work for a person who works in excess of 80 hours a week. Ultimately this is what "kills" an App for me. Way too much Adminstration and organisation. Hopefully Mem can pull it all off and present a really appealing App.
@danielpourasg
@danielpourasg 2 күн бұрын
I totally understand where you are coming from and honestly I am the way. I just want to take notes and find them later. That is why I love the idea of mem. But I am just wondering how mem will end up when it has to compete with Microsoft and Google. Hopefully mem can have a better user interface. It is an application I am really excited about and I really hope they will succeed because I want to use it!

Intrigued by this app. Got on the waiting list when I got my first glimpse many many months ago. There is not a lot of reviews out there, but there are some... I might suggest there are enough out there, as well as the website where you cat get a bit of a feel. What struck me was that it did not dawn on me that this a Mac only app. For all I watched and waited and read... that part seemed missing. This vid is one of the few that comes to mind that makes brief mention of it. Saving grace is that there is a web app, but even then, with that there are many interactive features missing. No 'Ctrl-L', not 'capture' while browsing.. Hopefully, somewhere in the pipeline there are plans, we'll see. This development and invite cycle seems to not be in a particular rush.
@danielpourasg

They haven’t marketed it as a Mac only app. But it is and the web version isn’t good at all. It is definitely not worth it unless you have a Mac. The development is slow and I am guessing that there is no windows app coming anytime soon. But they might do like craft and come out with a windows app after a few years.

I watched a few hours of KZbin tutorials, purchase templates, and bought two courses to try to expedite my way through the learning curve. This is simply something most people are not going to do. I agree that unless they find a way to make this a lot simpler for the average user, this is going to be a very niche product for a small group of people.

I also think that most people have to do that, but I feel like not everyone is willing to, and with the huge market people can just choose one of the competitors instead. I think Tana will improve their onboarding but we will just have to wait and see how it ends up.

I'm old enough to remember having a 'Filofax' which had my life in it, diary, contacts, and to-dos. When I got a Samsung Blackjack, for me, this was the first really great SmartPhone, it didn't take me more than a second to realise my Filofax was done. I returned to using a Samsung last year, and again, it has turned into my 'everything' device. It has a pen built-in, which I never use, I didn't notice when it went missing.

The thing I like about Walling is how the bricks behave when they move. They don't shrink or collapse. They are not see-through. They don't tilt. You don't have to follow a coloured indictor line to the spot you want to move it to. When you have tried/tested so many other apps with "cards" that you can move around a canvas or a board view and then you move around bricks in Walling you can feel the difference immediately.

Imagine if the Supernotes app merged with the Walling app...that means we could finally have notecards on a wall instead of bricks on a wall. The user experience would be the closest to replicating sticking physical notes or cards on a physical wall instead of building a wall of bricks.

@@danielpourasg If you go to the Walling changelog and go back to version 2.3.9 you can see an image showcasing the brick wall analogy. I look forward to Walling instead representing walls in a room and becoming a digital alternative where people can collaborate on these digital walls. If you go to the Mural whiteboard app they have a Room feature. So just imagine you take the Rooms feature from Mural and then add the Walls from Walling and then add those notecards from Supernotes onto those walls....

Been using it since a few months only but will say its my favourite app to capture anything i want to. An Idea a photograph, relevant irrelevant things. Perfect for that. But it fails as a full scale KM app, and has a very casual look to it. The UI needs proper sizing and better fonts, or atleast a choice from casual UI to slightly office casual type. Rest all is good.

Yeah I agree, as a developper, Tana is super powerful (the node system is brilliant, tag inheritance & multiple inheritance are so welcomed, commands are powerful) but so confusing and not intuitive! I am also not comfortable with the idea of needing to subscribe to a cloud-based application to host all of my personal data, at the risk of them being able to delete all of my data or just losing features to run my life if I unsubscribe. I wish there was one tool that fits all my needs but at the time I use Apple Notes for quick & personal notes, Apple Reminders for personal reminders (with calendar integration with latest iOS & macOS software), Obsidian for work related stuff (as a developper, taking notes in markdown format is really cool and practical for writing code snippets), and Notion for organizing a few things in my life in databases (Movies/books/series, new words, job board, project planning, web links, music gear, dev tools...) are linking them all together in a cohesive way... AnyType and Capacities look very promising but they're not there yet for me. I love that these are offline (soon completely offline for Capacities) and really snappy software. I also think it is more intuitive to work with Object types than with Databases. AnyType still misses a lot a features and the UI needs work. Capacities is progressing really quickly, but things like Formulas, two-way relations, roll-ups, collaboration, and a good web-clipper are making me stick to Notion for a lot a things (check out Flylighter for the next best Notion web clipper) ! Maybe one day we'll have that perfect tool ! Offline, private, interoperable, object based, collaborative, with easy text/md export, etc. I dream of building a tool like that, but that's waaay down the road. Cheers man.

Great content! I haven't tried many of these apps, but I'm a big partisan for LogSeq! Owning your notes and it being free are big talking points, but also I think it is great and very useful: extracting all of its potentiality needs some studying and some planning, but it gives back a lot. It also has defects, namely, for me, a bit rough aesthetics and the fact that hashtags are treated as nodes as much as other notes, and I'd really like for it to implement some kind of supertag à la Tana, but it's great for the rest! One only suggestion I feel I can give you for your videos: I think you could add the names of the apps you talk about on the screen when you introduce them, it would make it easier to understand for those who don't know them already!

It's just very difficult to figure out how to use, and there are so many things that just don't work intuitively for me or are so obscure. And I have a tech background and consider myself relatively good at these things. My notetaking system for half my life has been node-based / outline based so I was initially excited by it. And it promises the next generation of such a system. But for now, while I'll keep an eye on Tana, I will be sticking with Workflowy, Dynalist, and Checkvist for my needs for the foreseeable future.

It is a great visual note taking app. I think that apps will go more and more towards not having a real free plan. Evernote is headed that way and reflect does not have it either. Where I think Heptabase shines is for working on and understanding complex problems for research for example.

It's infinetily better to have one app to handle it all. People switch between craft docs, notion, onenote etc - you name it. There's a fundamental flaw in related thinking here about apps: - Trying to endlessly arrange your content - its actually not important - Endlessly doing complex organising etc, productivity porn - productivity porn doesnt get the job done, you just getting stuck in administrative tasks which shouldn even be there to begin with - Thinking that beautifully looking notes etc will somehow will make your more productive - no its not. - Now AI joined - no LLM app can boost your workflow now, its just non existent for now with few exceptions, and even they will slow you down because they require to switch apps=>contexts. The most useful thing right now is semantic search. As for tagging, you should develop your own tags and let LLM choose from YOUR tags, otherwise it will be productivity pron because ai doesn't know your intentions, doesn't know your actual business. - And some more it's not getting work done - you don't get new insights, you don't get projects done, you don't get designs done You can store all your notes and info in markdowen with YAML propetries, yes it may not look as fancy as stuff like craft docs etc, but it will make you work, create ideas and other derivelables way faster. Now when all your notes in markdown, you can manipulate it as you wish. The only problem here is to put restrictions and conventions and follow them, its actually easy All those fancy arrangements should be done for client, or if you design your landing page, your product and so on. But you don't have to advertise anything to yourself in your own system Though i will be glad if obsidian had notion editor and some other options
