Ok, I know nothing about this part of the Equine world of sports. Are there special shoes on these guys? I have to ask before I form a complete judgement, because having these guys on ice seems SO dangerous for the Icelandic horse.

They have these things called snow-drift under their shoes. We put those on our horses every winter then when it’s warmer like in the summer we take them off.

The also move in special gate called tolt. Tolt movement prevent them from slipping, thanks to the angle at which the hoof strikes the ground (angle near parallel to ground) . They were specifically breed to move on ice without falling

The only abuse i see is the giant bits... The gait is all natural and the shoes theyre wearing are little weights, ive held some and they dont really weigh much. The horses are fine and icelandics are some of THE most well taken care of and happiest horses ive met in the competition world.

Tolting looks like the big lick gait people abuse Tennessee walker horses to do, it's absolutely heart breaking.. But I guess it's nice that this is a natural gait for Icelandic horses which is great !! And it's so cool too. Like if people wanted to do the big lick gait then why get a Tennessee walker when you have the Icelandic? And it's natural for the Icelandic to do it? Ya big idiots
@ailaya51276 жыл бұрын
Islandic shoeing for competion (and training) is very limited in weight, chains around the feed are forbidden. I think such a rule would fix the Tenessee walking horse. In my eyes, there is no chance for the big lick without the weights in the horse shoes. Btw: the big lick is way higher.

IT IS HORSE AND PONY ABUSE WHEN YOU PUT LEAD BLOCKS ON THERE FRONT HOOVES THAT IS WHAT MAKES THEM TROT IN SUCH AN EXAGGERATED GAIT!! I'm sure the horses are wearing special shoes. Horses are shod differently for different conditions. There is a breed called "Paso Fino" that has almost the same gate. It is in their nature, not man made.
@nacierma576 жыл бұрын
Absolutely agree, the Paso Fino is a bit faster. They come out of the mothers doing the fast gait they gave. Look them up, you'll be amazed
@nolol3036 жыл бұрын
The horses are probably wearing shoes, but there aren't special shoes that make them do it, it's a natural gait they do whether they are out in the wild or captivated in human care, shoes or not, the Icelandic horses do it. And it's beautiful :o

The tolt gait is a natural gait for Icelandic horses, whether out in the wild or captivated under human ownership and care. Whether they have special shoes or forced into abuse to doing it, Icelandic horses do it and it doesn't bother them, they are also capable of carrying a large amount of wait, so a person riding one doesn't bother them either. The tolt is not mean :)
