What gets me is that not all of them were icons - some were applications and folders and they just disappeared. Oddly, they show up in onedrive cloud desktop backup....on my other computers...but not on thee one computer which i use them.. Unfortunately this fix only hid my existing icons that were no hid.

My only comment is for newer users you go pretty fast, slow it down a bit for your subscribers to learn better. Good luck though and thank you for doing this.

Thanks for the feedback. I purposefully try to be efficient in my videos because it is always faster to listen again then skip around waiting for someone to get to the point of the video only to have to go back and forth trying to find the answer. Hopefully the content was still helpful!

I am just getting back into publishing after years away. Your suggestion to use bookmarks and hyperlinks rather than the MS Word Table of Contents or another eBook specific tool.

There are a couple of other things you can try. If nothing exists on your desktop, try checking the Recycle Bin to see if anything from your Desktop landed there. Also, if you know a name of any of the files from your Desktop, trying doing a search to see if you can find it somewhere else. This is easiest with a less common word so I would start there. Good luck!

Oh no! The only other thing I can think of is to check the recycle bin and the folders on the desktop to see if items were accidentally moved within a folder.

Oh my gosh! Just brilliant! What a game changer! Many thanks!!! I chuckled listening to you be flabbergasted as to why MS made doing this so hard...lol. For the longest I did not care for the MS table of contents formatting. It truly made something simple difficult. You showed an immensely easier way to get this done in under 10 minutes. My oversight in watching this is the importance of placing/keeping ones cursor on the actual title within the doc you plan to bookmark "before" heading back to the top of the doc to link the respective title. You're awesome and thank you for the time you spent creating this video to share :) Also, your voice is perfect for radio. I have subscribed to your channel.

Sorry to hear this didn't fix your issue. Sounds like you have something else going on since clicking on the taskbar icons does not actually launch the programs there. This could be a variety of things, but I would start with installing any applicable Windows updates, rebooting and if necessary, running an anti-malware scan. I hope this helps!

I'm sorry this didn't help. You can also try checking other folders to see if the files were accidentally dragged there, the Recycle Bin, or try to restore from a backup. I hope that helps!

This is possibly the result of people trying to dress up their yearly performance report. "updated 1 billion computers, saved workspace, humans on planet earth regained 3 billion hours back". The truth may be the opposite then the truth is we are all doing system restores for hour+ wondering, 'wtf, where is everything?'. Thanks for posting this. The info is easy to find via a Google search but the video was nice. Going to give this a try after this restore session.

Thanks so much for this great video! 2 questions (hoping you see this before I have to finish/send a PDF in the morning) -- Can the name of the bookmark be edited? And, what happens if you move the sections around in the document or delete a section?

Hi - Hoping to catch you before you save. Looks like you cannot edit the bookmark name, you can edit where it goes or the text selected to go to the bookmark. The best you can do is go to the bookmark, update the name and then add it and relink. As far as deleting sections, the links will likely break. As far as moving sections, if you grab some of the text where you want the bookmark to be, the bookmark should go with it and the link should continue to go to the correct location. If you just click next to the text like I have in the video, it will only go to where the section was originally located. I hope that is helpful!

Sorry to hear this did not help. Sometimes the files accidentally get moved to another folder or the recycle bin. Trying running a search for one of the most unique file names across the entire drive to see if you can locate them. I hope this helps!

It is possible this is controlled by the server, or by the type of connector used. Try logging into the webmail version and see if you can browser older emails. You might also want to check for archive files which can hold older emails. I hope this helps!
