my name is Brent, i have found an excellent way for the juice grove well, i made n 45 degree piece to go into any corner. clamp it, to prevent movement. I have found this too work excellent. this also adds an extra design too your cutting board.

Hey man just curious, from a novice woodworker to a super advanced woodworker like yourself, would you a customer expect to pay for a cutting board of that caliber? I’ve personally begun just to put out cutting boards I feel comfortable selling to someone. Mine are not of that size certainly, I would say my boards average between 13x18x1 1/4-1 1/2. I have a couple end grain and 1or 2 edge grain. Btw I totally agree with you when you said walnut and maple go together great. I would even add to that and say the same for birch and beyond that even, Purple Heart added with those two are a winning combo in my opinion. I’d also like to hear what you would consider to be good advice for a budding woodworker who’s looking to make it his main source of income in the years to come. Thanks man!

Curious, when you had to rip the lower shelf and reglue it in place to get it to fit, didn't you end up with gaps at the corners, since losing the width of the blade?
@andrewcheatle3 ай бұрын
Great question! Yep I lost about 1/8” in shelf width because of the blade width from the saw. Fortunately I had already factored it in to have a little bit of a gap at the corners anyways for natural expansion and contraction of the shelf so it was just 1/16” more in each corner. I even checked before making this move to make sure aesthetically it wouldn’t look bad and fortunately it looked totally fine

Beautiful cutting board, great work. I would suggest that you put rubber feet on the board to keep it from slipping around the countertop while cutting food on it. I do that on mine and customers love it.

Great job! I think I would’ve liked the lighter color as well, but this also looks fantastic! I do not have a domino so I am excited to watch other videos of yours where you only use saws and routers for joinery. I like your various uses of the painters tape and CA glue trick. Can’t wait to watch more of your videos! New subscriber here!

@@andrewcheatle I use little rubber bumpers on the bottom. That way it doesn’t slide around on the counter top.

Nice lines on the bench! Great video too. That miter gauge looks like a nice tool. Accurate and easy to adjust. You def made me want one
@andrewcheatle6 ай бұрын
I’d highly recommend the miter gauge. Marc Spagnuolo, the Wood Whisperer, has a really good video comparing multiple miter gauges and that’s where I decided this one suited all of my needs. It’s a little pricy, but it pays dividends with accuracy and ease of use.

Love the hair...I like a clear finish on white oak projects too. Shellac with a lacquer top coat is what I usually use. I've been experimenting with Aquacoat wood grain filler on open pore woods. I'm liking it.

Is veneer walnut real walnut? Also usually if veneer walnut is used, what’s the wood inside?
@andrewcheatle6 ай бұрын
The veneer part is real walnut planed very thin over a substrate, which is usually some sort of plywood or particle board in cheaper furniture. I know a lot of people who make their own veneer like to use Baltic birch as the substrate since it’s a higher quality plywood. Hope that helps!

Andrew, I am a senior in high school in woodshop class and I came across your video on the walnut coffee table. For my senior project I am planning on doing something similar. The way that you built this table shows true craftsmanship and I would love to test my skills. Is there any way that you could share a cut list or the plans that you used throughout this build.

Beautiful job! Thanks. Can you recommend an alternate finish for walnut, any polyurethanes or lacquers?
@andrewcheatle6 ай бұрын
I think any clear coat finish like that would work great as well, and it would also help maintain the natural color of the walnut even more than the Rubio I used. I chose to use the hard wax oil option just because I knew that would be easier to potentially spot treat certain areas down the road. Cheers!
