Well, THAT's not what my intention was... First, I want to Present what I wrote as my introduction to the Video, in case you didn't read it... This Video is to show you how to setup the new Presonus Studio line of Audio Interfaces using only the Universal Control. This should apply to ALL DAWs. PLEASE, WATCH TO AT LEAST 2:23.. The units come out of the box in an unusable configuration if you're purchasing it for any other reason than a MONO live mixer. This video will show you how to customize the configuration for setup in your studio. Written Instructions are included, as well. BTW this unit's sound has the WOW factor! Next, If you haven't done so, I think you should watch the video , again to see if you pick up any additional knowledge. And, lastly.. other than what I just wrote, I can't help you if you aren't going to ask me any questions. What you wrote is not constructive in any way. Maybe this isn't the interface for you.

I am confused on WHY all these faders should be down? I assume you left Mic 7 on your Main Mix Tab at 0.0 because you are using that mic to do you voice over here? And all the others go down because they aren't used? What if you use multiple inputs at different times? Should you be pulling them down when not in use and bringing them up to 0.0 only when you are using them? And what exactly are the DAW channels for? I've always used 1&2 linked for my main out. But what are you using DAW 3 for? And why not use the other DAW channels? If Universal Control is not set up correctly, with the right faders being up or down, does that harm the quality of the recordings/mix? I do not have an outboard mixer. Do I need to know all this if I'm relying entirely on a DAW to mix?
@rchaisse Жыл бұрын
Hi Mr. Galaxy Devourer.. Sorry for the late reply. I just saw this tonight. The reason I pull down all of the unused faders is because if there is any audio coming into those channels, they will appear on the Main Outputs. It can really throw things off if you unknowingly have sound coming through. DAW channels are the Output channels FROM your DAW, in your case the Stereo output from your DAW. My DAW 3 is a Mono Output from the DAW that I set up to assign to an external Effect box, and then Bring it back into the DAW on Channel 7. If you don't have a Mixing board, you shouldn't have a problem. Since your coming on 1/ 2, I assume you have your outputs hooked up to external powered speakers. I would still pull down any faders you're not using, until you need them. just in case..

sorry, if i want to hear flat input audio, isnt there a mix knob to decide the input/output ratio? thanks
@rchaisse Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean by 'flat'. Flat usually refers to the frequency response level being equal across the entire spectrum, 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. If you mean the Input being the same level as the output and that level being controled by a volume knob, then my comment about my calibration knob being set at 2:45 would refer to that. The way audio amplifiers work is that equal gain is present at 77.7% of the amplifier's potential (full) volume. Everything above that level ( such as transient spikes) are exaggerated. This is why I set my amplifier knobs near the '3', if you're looking at an analog clock. Just an added note here.. I have proven this many times by listening to an audio source, with one ear, on headphones. Then, with my pre-amp, or mixer set at unity gain I adjust the Speaker amplifier's volume control until I hear that same roundness and dynamics shaping that I heard in the Headphone. Bingo! 77.7% of the volume control. If you do this, there should never be sound coming through the speakers when listening to the headphones. Hope this answers your question.

I wasn't familiar AT ALL with Universal Control. Understanding the mix tabs on the right helped steer me in the right direction..
@4thphaseofmalaise2 жыл бұрын
Your video inspired me to try something slightly different. Instead of bending anything I used a tiny bit of carbon conductive grease on the neutral to bridge the connection. It worked. You were right about loose connections. Carbon conductive grease is a special black grease that conducts electricity. Just use a small bit and make sure you don't get it between the neutral and center positive contacts.

Hi again Rick. One final question. When you talk about the "Mixing Board" am I correct in assuming you are talking about an external analogue mixing board or the Mixing Board contained within Universal control . If it is an external mixing board perhaps you could explain the necessity for such an item rather than a direct physical connection to the hardware inputs and outputs of the 1810C.
@rchaisse2 жыл бұрын
You are correct. I am talking about an external Mixer. I realize that there are a lot of people that don't have mixing boards. They may use a laptop and plug a mic or instrument into an Audio interface such as the 1810c. Even if they don't have an external Mixer, this unit should do the job, The necessity of a Mixing board comes from when you want to expand your capabilities. My use comes from having a recording studio which provides inputs for Drums, Vocals & instruments to be recorded at once. It also provides for multiple headphone mixes. Also, I can playback audio from many sources without having to re-patch a bunch of cords. When you add a Mixer, you're potentially adding significant cost. Even more so if you're adding external speakers & amplifiers and microphones ext. i.e. it costs more, but you can do more. Also prepare yourself for a lot of technical training that's required. I hope this helps.
@alanmclean27132 жыл бұрын
@@rchaisse Thanks again Rick. That makes everything so clear. I have older hardware because I used to only use midi hardware modules connected to my analogue mixer and jam along with the midi files singing and playing mainly acoustic guitar so now I'm building a hybrid setup using the 1824C audio interface and your video is exactly what I needed to understand the Universal Control PDF manual which is lacking in demonstrating practical applications. However, sometimes the manufacturers assume they are dealing with audio professionals rather than hobbyists like myself with more money to spend in my dotage with the kids all gone. Keep up the great work Rick.

Hi! Very silly thing. Recently put up 4 cameras, and realized one camera wire been put up wrong way. Now do I have to rewire or is the any way to get some sort of converter to save the hassle.
@rchaisse2 жыл бұрын
Silly? Yeah.. I've done the same thing! It is probably easier to change out the cable, as you would need (4) adapters to make it work. The BNC adapters are available but I'm not sure of the Power adapters. Here's my question.. how is the cable run? is it loose through an attic or crawl space? is it secured against the walls? If it's loose, you can simply take another camera cable and use the existing one to pull the new one to the camera or DVR location. Of course, be sure the new one is facing the right way this time. If you don't have another cable available, you can use a strong pull-string or wire. Either way, be sure you wrap tape around the connection point in a way that the connection won't get caught on anything while you're pulling the new cable to the final location. BTW, if you have to use pull-string, the length needs to be at least twice as long as the distance to the location you'll be pulling to. That way, when you have the original cable in hand, you can take it to the starting point, tie it on to the string ( the correct end towards the camera) and pull it through a second time. TIP: it helps if you have a second person helping you. One to pull and one to feed it . Hope this helps!

How to you shorten the pre made camera cords
@rchaisse4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jon, Are you wanting to shorten the cable because there is a problem with the cable, or is it because it's just too long? If it's too long, you can buy a 15' or 25' that would not cost much. Or, simply roll it up the existing cable and hide the excess. Otherwise, you could cut out a section of the cable and splice the remaining ends together. If the end is defective, the pre-made cables are not going to allow you to replace the ends. If that's the case, do you have a spare cable? If so, I would cut a few feet from the end of the new one, cut off a foot or two from the end of the defective one, and splice the wires. Soldering is the best method, but you could get away with twisting the wires and taping them. I looked for a video to help you with this, couldn't find one. Let me know if you need any more assistance and I'll try to help you further..
