I have a World Class T5 that belongs to a 1993 GM 2.8 V6 truck. Manual gives me the option of using Dexron iii or Synchromesh. How do I determine which one my WC T5 takes? It was my belief that NWC takes gear oil and WC the ATF(Dex iii). Is the synchromesh fluid interchangeable to either NWC or WC? And I also heard that modern gear oil can eat up the bronze synchros so that’s why Synchromesh fluid is preferred to gear oil but not sure if it can also be used on a WC T5. My T5 took a dump & I found a WC Donor that’s bone dry and wanted to fill it up but don’t know what fluid to fill it up with, any info helps thanks!
@Lugnutz652 ай бұрын
@@luissonoma6255 since Dex 3 isn’t available and Dex 4 and up is too thin you should use Dex/Merc ATF. It’s correct for WC and NWC. I have verified in S10 factory manuals that ATF was used in NWC T5s. I prefer the slightly quicker shifting that ATF provides. Synchromesh is acceptable for NWC but I prefer the Dex/Merc ATF.

@@Lugnutz65 Awesome, thank you. I ended up getting AcDelco Automatic transmission fluid type iii (H) part number 1076073 on Amazon at $11 a quart. According to the owners manual a 5-speed with a RPO code of either ML3 or MW1 takes the Dexron ATF and the 5-Speed with a RPO code of MY2 takes Synchromesh fluid. I just couldn’t decipher which was which. Maybe that’s because it is from a 1992 manual & I heard WC were introduced on a S10/Sonoma in 1993 could be wrong though. If it has some play side to side would that be ok? Don’t really want to rebuild as I don’t have the funds? How much is one of those rebuild kits for a WC T5 & best place to get it? I checked eBay & seen one from $300-$450 but some lack some things like reverse.
@Lugnutz652 ай бұрын
@@luissonoma6255 I can’t comment on the ATF you bought. I just don’t know. You are correct. 1993 is a one year only S10/Sonoma T5. It’s WC and has a Muncie bolt pattern for the bell. In 1994 it stayed WC but changed to the Ford bolt pattern to the bell. Camaro/Firebird was WC 1988-92 with a Muncie pattern and went to Ford pattern in 1993. Buy rebuild kits from ALLSTATEGEAR.com.

Possibly stupid question here. Why can't you use the stock S 10 clutch between the sbc flywheel and pressure plate.
@Lugnutz654 ай бұрын
@@MrTaDodge Not a stupid question at all. The Jeep shaft solves 2 major issues. 1. The original S10 T5 14 spline input shaft is too long and splines are not cut long enough along the shaft to use with a traditional SBC bell. Jeep shaft solves that. 2. The S10 T5 input shaft has 14 splines but the S10 clutch disc has a smaller surface area than what is desired for a SBC. You can buy a NEW 14 spline clutch disc with a larger diameter (Astro van or another special size sold by Summit Racing) but the cost is the same or more than a new 10 spline clutch disc which you might already have. The Jeep shaft swap MIGHT let you re-use the clutch disc you already have, thus saving some money right away.

@@blue32nu The video shows the original design bracket and pump from the 1960 through about 1972. The original brackets are hard to find and expensive. Clever people have designed a different design bracket that bolts lower down near where the alternator typically is located. The engine crank turns a double pulley on the power steering pump and a separate belt goes from the PS pump pulley to the run the alternator. It’s a nice design and pretty economical.
